RNU Call on Cardinal Seán Brady to Resign

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Wednesday August 03, 2011 20:05author by RNU PRO - Republican Network for Unity (RNU) Report this post to the editors

REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY Chairperson, CARL REILLY has called on the Catholic Primate of Ireland, Sean Brady to resign his position.

REPUBLICAN NETWORK FOR UNITY CHAIRPERSON, CARL REILLY has called on the Catholic Primate of Ireland, Sean Brady to resign his position.

Mr. Reilly said; ‘In April 2010, the Cardinal publicly admitted he was complicit in covering the criminal activities of the paedophile, Brendan Smyth. The revelations that the Church obsessively concealed clerical sexual abuse for decades to avoid scandal is unforgiveable. A significant number of Irish children under the care of various Irish Orders have endured horrific crimes against them.

It is the duty of every Irish citizen to establish the truth of what happened, comprehensively address these crimes and prevent them from occurring again. Only then, can our society move forward. RNU calls upon the Primate to unreservedly apologise to those children, their families and step down'.

Carl Reilly concluded; 'Sean Brady is not the right person to lead protection measures for children. Our Network believes the Catholic Church must be transparent in addressing the past and do so in a caring fashion and live up to the position of trust they hold with many of the Irish people'.

not only should he resign, but the state should use the criminal assets bureau against them and seize every thing they own.

but realistically thats not going to happen because the state knows the church,is another useful tool in keeping people brainwashed, and keeping people down

however the powers that be prefer that the taxpayer foots the bill while the "holy orders" lock away their assets in offshore companies. Its all very cynical

If the Republican Network for Unity and Carl Reilly have a few spare days, they might comment on the Residential Institutions Redress Board Report, or the Cloynes Report, or the Dublin Diocese Report, or various others. There are many people as complicit as, or more complicit than Brady who might resign. Some should be prosecuted for either direct involvement in abuse, or facilitating abuse.

How about Br. Edmund Garvey and his performance before some of the committees writing these reports? And similar advocates of abusers in the other congregations?

(Coming to the issue so late, the RNU might as well add something).
