Radio Caroline DJ Steve Conway reading from his Memoir 'Shiprocked' and reminiscing about the golden era of pirate radio

World-reknowned DJ Steve Conway will be reading from his Memoir 'Shiprocked' to commemerate the 20th anniversay of the sinking of the Ross' Revenge, the original Radio Caroline ship.

20 years ago in the early hours of 20 November 1991 East Wall resident Steve Conway looked with horror at the 20 foot waves crashing over his ship and at the freezing angry waters of the North Sea and bade an emotional farewell to his friends and shipmates as they prepared themselves for the fact that their lives were just about to come to am end through drowning in those freezing swirling waters. Steve was on the Ross Revenge, the last of the Radio Caroline ships and they had just run aground on the treacherous Goodwin Sands off the coast of Kent. Steve survived the shipwreck, but only just, and on 21 November at 7pm in the Sean O'Casey Community Centre in East Wall he will read from his memoir 'Shiprocked- Life on the Waves with Radio Caroline' about this and other memorable incidents from his time living at sea with Radio Caroline and talk about the effect this momentous event has had on his life. This event is organised by Seven Towers Agency ( www.seventowers.ie , info@seventowers.ie ) a not for profit literary agency and publishing house staffed entirely by volunteers. The event is free but an opportunity will be available to make a donation to the RNLI and to the Sean O'Casey Community Centre and also to buy signed copies of Steve's book at a special reduced price. Dubliner Steve Conway lives inEast Wall. During the 1980s Steve lived at sea with the radio pirate Radio Caroline, and literally almost gave his life to the cause. Steve also worked for Phantom FM from it's pirate days through to it's reestablishment as a licenced station and he continues to broadcast on the now land-based Radio Caroline as well as on Radio Seagull the last of the off-shore radio stations. The best selling 'Shiprocked - Life on the Waves with Radio Caroline' is Steve's first book and his second - a memoir drawn from his full 25 years on radio will be published in February 2012
