A new Dublin start-up have just released Riffstation, a software application designed for guitar players everywhere to practice, jam and learn the songs they love. There's even a free trial version available on the website www.riffstation.com. Unlike other interactive guitar applications which force users to buy subscriptions or special content, Riffstation uses the music you already own. It is compatible with various formats including mp3, wma and many other popular formats. Using state of the art algorithms, Riffstation calculates the chords in the song and synchronises the finger position diagrams with the music. And as if that wasn't enough, users can slow the music down and change the key of the song if desired. It also provides a looping tool which repeats selected music parts with perfect timing. There's even a guitar isolation tool which is useful for zoning in on guitar solos and hearing the finer detail. Bedroom guitar players and out of work pros can look forward to the Riffbuilder tool which allows users to create brand new customised jam tracks using the music of their favorite artists as building blocks. You can create totally new riffs to jam with, that have the same sound and vibe as your favorite bands, so now you really can have AC/DC as your backing band but you get to tell them what to do. It is currently available for windows and a Mac version is in production. There's a free 30 day trial available now and the full version will cost less than a night out at €39.99. http://www.riffstation.com
