Renowned Human Rights and Criminal Lawyer Imran Khan will visit Cork on Wednesday 8th of February to deliver two talks on the dangers of far-right politics. Mr Khan will be speaking in Boole lecture theatre 2 on UCC Campus at 1pm and that evening he will address a meeting in Cork city centre held in the Quay Co-Op meeting room on Cove Street at 6.30pm, he will also meet with a group of UCC Law students after the public meeting in UCC.

Imran Khan is one of the best-known human rights and criminal lawyers in the UK. His work representing the parents of Stephen Lawrence, who was stabbed to death in 1993, brought him to national and international attention and led to the establishment of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry. Two suspects were recently convicted of this racially-motivated murder, almost twenty years after it was committed.

Khan’s later representation of the families of Victoria Climbie and Zahid Mubarek, and the public inquiries into their deaths, led to substantial social change regarding the care of children and prisoners in the UK. He has lectured nationally and internationally on human rights and criminal law and has written extensively on the subject.

This event is being organised by Cork Against Fascism as part of its No Platform for Fascists campaign in UCC. The visit of such a highly regarded figure, organised at such a short notice in reaction to the invitation extended to Nick Griffin is a clear expression of how seriously the threat of Far Right organising is taken by those who deal with it professionally on a daily basis.
