LYCS and ICON in partnership with Bloom invite you to a Public Meeting on the Financial Crisis. The meeting takes place at 6.45pm on Wednesday 6th June in LYCS Community Creche, Old National School, Lower Rutland St. Dublin 1. The meeting will host both international and local speakers and will be chaired by Vincent Browne of TV3.

Speakers: Hernan Mauro Langiotti (Social Activist from Argentina)
Gary Gannon (Activist from North Inner City)
Dr. Andy Storey (University College Dublin)
Nessa Ní Chasaide (Debt and Development Coalition / Bloom )

Purpose of the Meeting

1. To learn about:

· the current state of play regarding Ireland’s national debt ie: How much is it? Who do we owe it to? Do we have to re-pay it? What are the various views on repayment or non-repayment?

· the government response to the debt crisis up to now ie: how are they managing the debt? What are the austerity policies? What are the EU and IMF roles?

· how the community is being affected ie: what are the impacts on people’s lives in the community? How is the community coping and responding?

· the alternatives being proposed ie: what campaigns are out there in the community and throughout Ireland?

· how other countries and communities have dealt with these experiences: ie: what has happened elsewhere? What lessons can we learn from those experiences?

2. To enable debate and action planning through an accessible and open approach that encourages participants to shape the discussion and come up with ideas on what to do.
