Dublin - Event Notice Thursday January 01 1970 Join The 1916 People's Parade to St Enda's Rathfarnham -home of Pearse
2pm, Monday, May 2nd, Ballinteer Church for Parade to St Enda's
On Bank Holiday Monday, May 2, 2016 - on the eve of the one hundredth
anniversary of Patrick Pearse's execution - the people of Ballinteer,
Rathfarnham, Dundrum, Sandyford and the wider South Dublin
community will come together for a '1916 People's Parade' - to

Before the break of dawn on the morning of May 3rd, 1916, Patrick Pearse
was taken from his cell to the Stonebreaker's Yard in Kilmainham Jail to
face a British firing squad. Within minutes the thirty-six year old poet,
teacher, writer, Irish language activist and revolutionary was dead.
Twenty-four hours later Willie Pearse was marched into the same yard
to face the same fate as his brother.
Less than two weeks earlier the Pearse brothers had left their family
home in St Enda's, Rathfarnham for the last time. Three other teachers
from St Enda's -Plunkett, MacDonagh and Colbert -were also to die in
the Stonebreakers Yard.
