Britain's warm June brought out the usual heatwave hysterics. It was supposedly "100 times" more likely due to the "climate crisis" and caused 600 deaths, but the numbers don't add up, says Ben Pile.

Labour's determination to ban 'Islamophobia' is at odds with its commitment to hold a rape gangs inquiry, says Laurie Wastell. Worse, the committee includes people who think rape gangs are a Right-wing dog whistle.

Letter to British Ambassador re Juian Assange

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Friday December 10, 2021 15:16author by Justin Morahan Report this post to the editors

Julian Assange lost his case today and may now be extradited to the USA. The letter below was sent in protest to both Embassies

Mr Paul Johnson

British Ambassador to Ireland

Ballsbridge

Dublin. 10 December 2021

Dear Ambassador

It is difficult for me to express in diplomatic or courteous terms my
horror and anger at the recent decision to extradite the whistleblower
and journalist Julian Assange to the United States for further
psychological torture, incarceration and likely death.

Although this is the determination of an appeal court, it is first and
foremost the decision of your Government - a shameful and disgraceful
decision to exact revenge on someone who has courageously told the truth
about the war In Iraq and Afghanistan. The war against Iraq was started
without justification by US President George W Bush and menially and
cravenly supported by your then Prime Minister Anthony Blair of the
Labour Party.

Both of these unconvicted war criminals acted in the full knowledge
that there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that
therefore their justification for waging war was a lie. But they got a
compliant media on board.

The war itself was an act of carnage against the people of Iraq. It also
involved the killing of many hundreds of thousands of human beings
including children and other non-combatants. Its legacy includes the
rise and pillage of Isis and the utter destruction of a country and its
people.

When Chelsea Manning revealed one true story of what was happening in
Iraq and Julian Assange published that true story on Wikileaks, the
persecution of Julian Assange began. The war-mongers and liars could
not bear the infamy of having their lies exposed.

Now this courageous human being and his family are being put through
further turmoil and torment by your government's decision to allow his
extradition to a country marked by its reckless abandonment of fair play
and justice. A country where torture is allowed and where claims of
torture are dismissed for reasons of State security. The case of Abu
Zubayda's torture is only one of a multitude of such horrific ongoing sagas.

I call on your government, your Prime Minister and everyone who has a
shred of decency in your country whether in or out of government to
reject this latest abomination in the continuous persecution of Julian
Assange.

With best personal wishes

Justin Morahan

Human rights activist, pacifist.
