Torture in Aceh. Hurrah for the 'War on Terror'

category international | anti-war / imperialism | press release author Tuesday July 08, 2003 14:00author by MG Report this post to the editors

Background: The Free Aceh Movement (GAM) has been fighting for independence in the oil- and gas-rich Aceh province of Indonesia since 1976. Thousands of innocent civilians have died in the intervening years, many of them killed by Indonesian soldiers and paramilitaries hired by local and Western oil firms to protect their pipelines and factories in Aceh. In May, under the guise of Bush's "war on terror", the Indonesian military launched an offensive against the GAM, its largest operation since the brutal 1975 invasion of East Timor, which was supported by US President Gerald Ford and his war criminal sidekick, Henry Kissinger. The Aceh offensive has been all but ignored by the Western media...

The Jakarta based government of Indonesia is being assisted in its genocide of the West Papuans by Islamic fundamentalist nut cases Laskar Jihad. U.S. 'intelligence' links Laskar Jihad to Al'Quaeda. British Hawk aircraft and Scorpion tanks are helping Indonesia in their genocidal efforts in Aceh. These weapons were cleared for sale to Indonesia by peace nik Robin Cook under New Labour's 'ethical' trade policy in 1997. (Can weapons sales be ethical?) British arms sales to Indonesia have increased 20 fold (no really) in the last two years.

There is no 'War on Terror' there's just a 'War on Cumbersome Poor People'. Someday there will be justice and the super rich will be able to enjoy their God given spoils unimpeded. Ethics are no longer cost effective.
