WILL WE EVER LEARN Despite the shocking history of East Timor and the unncessary massacres that the world's powers facilitated and watched, it's all happening again. Indonesia has brought over 11,000 troops to West Papua (its colony since 1969) in recent months and intimidation, torture and massacres are becoming increasingly common. The official Irish government stance is to respect the sovereignty of Indonesia and hope that dialogue between Indonesia and Papuan 'separatists' can resolve the inevitable turmoil. Ridiculous! Indonesia, assisted in their West Papuan genocide by Laskar Jihad, Islamic extremists closley associated with bin Laden's boys if U.S. intelligence is to be believed.
The situations in Ache and West Papua show up the war on terror for what it is: a selectively applied rationale for the global gang warfare crossfire that is modern 'civilisation'.
Is this the type of progress the US Senate wanted before it would continue the "normalisation" of International Military Education & Training to Indonesia ?
http://www.westpapuanews.com/articles/publish/article_59.shtml
Why did the killings happen now ? Was it opportunistic or was it timed to coincide with other events ?
Is this is the beginning of a renewed Indonesian campaign of brutality ?
In fairness to US Congress they voted to block military aid to Indonesia, it seems the Bush administration wanted it to continue.
However the aid was only blocked until the Indonesians conduct a thorough investigation into the killing of US citizens in West Papua in 2002.
And then what type of progress ?
Will anyone investigate the death of West Papuans ?
Please see www.westpapuanews.com to see the latest murders in the Indonesian
occupation of West Papua in Yalengga village.
10 people are already dead, at least 4 of these are reported to be known civilians. It is vwery likely that more civilians may be killed.
We should telephone the TNI offices and let them know the outside world is watching them and let them know what we think of their barbarity!
Please pick up the phone and call:
Wamena Army Office (Kodim) +62 969-31089
(you can call from UK for 15p/min by dialling 0905 3060197 first)
The killers are on the other end of the phone now. Tell them what you
think.
"TNI sudah bunuh orang biasa di Yalengga"
(TNI killed civilians in Yalengga)
"Organisasi Hak Asasi Manusia sudah tahu tentang TNI di Papua"
(Human rights organisations know about TNI in Papua)
"Semuah dunia tahu tentang TNI di Papua"
(All the world knows what TNI are doing in Papua)
Let us not deny this reality simply because our noble minds resist such horrors. This is the prices of our oil, gas, copper, timber and ignorance. Our heart goes out to West Papua and those suffering everywhere.
