A team of international observers at the trial of 3 Irishmen accused of IRA activity in Colombia have requested a meeting with a high level offical from the Colombian government to raise serious concerns about the Colombian judicial process. 5 members of the Australian monitoring group including public representative Paul Lynch, and Sydney barrister Shaun Kerrigan who attended the 3 Irish men's court case earlier this year hope to raise their concerns about the judicial process with the Colombian representative in Australia. |

Jump To Comment: 4 3 2 1The men have done their time in the past, for their misdemeanours, and they have paid their dues in terms of previous prison sentences in Ireland.
Citizen 'black ops colombian junta spokesperson' Joe is trying to justify the 3 men's continual and repeated punishment for something they have done in the past and already served prison terms for in Ireland.
Citizen 'black ops colombian junta apologist Joe, should respect democrasy, abide by its rules and respect the mandate of the electorate who have supported and elected Catriona Ruane and fully back the campaign for justice and a fair trial for the 3 Irish men.
The 3 Irishmen benefit from at least some attention from the media and international observers, and yet they are being treated as political pawns and are undoubtedly victims of injustice.
Think for a minute what the situation is for ordinary Colombian citizens. It is surely in their interest that these men be released immediately and the pressure be kept up on the Colombian authorities.
These three "lads" are seasoned and experienced activists in the (self-styled) "Republican Movement". They've been around a long time and know the potential consequences of that activity. While we may indeed agree that the Columbian justice system doesn't meet the standards of even our own flawed system, it's worth noting that the consequences of the actions of the "Republican Movement" for many, many people have been far more serious than the plight of these three "lads". Anyone for a La Mon, Enniskillen, Bloody Friday, Kingsmills?
So, basically the message is: Do your time, eat your porridge, stop whingeing and ask all your supporters to stop whingeing too (especially Caitriona Ruane, PLEASE). You'll be home soon. And when you get home, get involved in some good constructive work like some of your comrades appear to be doing now.
These 3 lads are being used as political puppets. Where is the vocal concern of our esteemed government whilst 3 of their citizens are being treated like this in a foreign country. Im sure a few strings were pulled by Haughey after Ben Dunnes escapades in the states.
