The section of the NSZZ (Solidarity trade union) in the region around Warsaw (Mazowsze) declares that it firmly opposes both the style of meeting of the European Economic Forum (WEF/EEF) and with its goals. Our stand on this issue was decided in the council meeting of 5 April 2004.

We stress the fact that we support the protests against this forum planned by trade unions.

The cost of the forum is a scandalous waste of money which could be better spent on social and national goals. The Warsaw city government will be obliged to waste millions of zloty for this summit.

During the four days of the Summit, the city will be in chaos and ordinary life will be completely blocked in some places. Commerce, services, industry, scientific institutions will suffer. Also important is that - for so-called "superior" reasons - civil rights are being violated, checks on people's homes, surveillance, etc.

On the other hand, this Summit can be an excuse for provocation, even for a terrorist attack. Ordinary people will suffer, not the Summit participants who are profiting from our taxes.

...

We stress that in the post-communist and liberal Poland, the "people from the big corporations" have dictated their wishes, including in the "Hausner plan", implementing perfect methods for stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. Which is why we support the protests against this government and against the dictates of big finance.
