Grassroots Network invites Dubliners to join May Day events
Reject scares and intimidation, say protest organisers
Dublin Grassroots Network has called for the people of Dublin to join in
May Day parties and protests and make their voice heard in the face of
Garda attempts to prevent the events and unfounded scare stories.
The "weekend for an alternative Europe" is being organised to highlight
opposition to racist "Fortress Europe" policies, the privatisation of basic
services, social injustice and the increased militarisation of the
European Union.
Spokesperson Liz Curry said: "The official EU events will cause
massive disruption to ordinary people's lives. They are being held at
the cost of a virtual suspension of constitutional rights such as the
freedom of assembly and the freedom of expression. Unlike the
Government's street party, which fell apart under pressure from
business interests, our parties are open to everyone."
Dublin Grassroots Network is organising a Critical Mass cycle ride on
Friday April 30th, a series of street theatre events on Saturday May 1st,
a noisy protest at Farmleigh House during the EU banquet that evening,
a No Borders party on Sunday May 2nd and a Reclaim the Streets party
on May 3rd. All events are peaceful and everyone is welcome.
