Broke Bristol council has splurged ?1,500 on daubing street sweepers and bin carts with the Pride flag despite massive budget holes and a ?600 million debt.

Children born since 2010 barely have need to read and write, their phones making everything audible. Many assume this post-literate shift will be a disaster, but there are some upsides, says Joanna Gray.

Of course the Covid Inquiry was going to find the government did 'too little, too late' ? it's the Official View, after all, says Professor James Alexander. This isn't going to save us from the next lockdown.

AEIP March to Station + Concert / Gardai Roadblocks

category dublin | summit mobilisations | news report author Saturday May 01, 2004 17:52author by circus crew Report this post to the editors

The march set off on time at around 1.30pm marching along the river and up to Heauston Station.
outside city hall

At the station there were a few speeches about the intimidation by the state and media and a call to build a massive demonstration against the visit in June of Bush.

Along the river route a few garda videod everything while there were several roads blocked off by Gardai, while as we neared the station there were clearly many more on the other side of the river , both blocking bridges and roads.

The music and bands are due to continue until 6pm this evening.

Swimmers protect the coppers- fuck 'em! 'Nuff said. Haven't seen anything this sad since the 'intervention' by SWP saps against protestors in defence of the PNSI up north during the last Bush visit- like the largely working class nationalist demonstrators who came out against Bush on that occasion needed lessons in how to deal with the unreconstucted RUC from outside SWP elements. Sad indeed.

author by fuinseogpublication date Sun May 02, 2004 14:28author address author phone Report this post to the editors

surely the SWP or one of their front organisations or whoever else was involved in organising the AEIP protest are entitled to decide how that protest is conducted and steward it as they wish?

it seems like there are a number of "protestors" who think they are entitled to use other people's protests as a cover for attacking cops. given your criticistm of the stewards for protecting cops it seems like you might be one of these hijackers.

if attacking cops is what you want to do arthur, organise your own protest and advertise it for what it will be. don't use the rest of us as human shields.

AEIP undertook to hold a peaceful protest and are entitled to steward it to make that happen.

(i'm not in swp or any similar organisations, my ideas would be more anarchist.)

A open vote was taken on before the march started and all voted in favour of stewards. No votes against... so there...begrudgers!
