Grassroots assemble at GPO
The early reports are that the crowd on O'Connell st. is the biggest so far on the grassroots actions. The crowd apparently runs from the Bridge up to the Spire on both sides of the road - estimates of between 1 and 2 thousand with people still arriving. No sign at present of a padded bloc.

The grassroots have just had a meeting in O'Connell St. and have decided to march on Farmleigh as originally planned.

Protestors on navan rd
Cops safeguard dildoes on O'Connell Street - see the excellent "Anne Summers" photo. But colourful protestors risk fatigue as they venture on two hour trek to try and drown out Bertie's well crafted speech.
You got to hand it to these kids - they have some stamina! Not content with "occupying" Fitzwilliam Square, wandering up to Heuston Station, they push the boat out with a marathon march to Farmleigh! If they have any energy left it will be a miracle.
Peace on all and strength to those legs for the return to the party in the city.

Just been confirmed to me that there has been a baton charge.
Fair play to the guards. Quite clearly massive presence intimidates these thugs and keeps them under control.

that demonstrators began trowing rocks and bottles at the 'unarmed' coppers in the front line, and that two bangardaí were 'injured'.
Which came first, the cannons or the bottle throwing?
I definatley seen things being throw on teh reprts, but the images were spliced in such a way as to not provide a followable timeline.
And btw, its Duck and Salmon and Slovakian vino for our glorious leaders up in Farmleigh. Followed by a night of Irish Dancing. Joy.
The Gardai deserve the congratulations of all the Irish people. They policed these unathourised protest in a non-confrontational manner and allowed them to travel on a route that they were not infomred of.
Despite this, they refused to be baited, until the crowd began to fire missiles at ordinary gardai, not in uniform. These thugs injured unprotected guards, including a female officer suggesting these are equal oppurtunity thugs.
Only then did the riot police becoming the front line, and their response can only be considered restrained.
Personally speaking I'd have given these thugs a hiding and sent them home crying to their rich mummys and daddys
The so called 'independent reports' are rubbish. just re-hashing the mis infomration of the thugs whpo believed acceptable to drink all day and throw their empty cans at unprotected police officers. What has this to do with legitimate protest.
Sure the reports are written by the "protestors" themselves.
The Irish people will know, however, that it was anarchist insurgents who through the first stone, thus provoking an appropriate response from our police force. I shall write to the Garda Commissioner personally to congratulate him on a wonderful evenings work.

congrats to the protestors for corrupting their own message and losing all support among those who believe the right to protest is only a right if it's peaceful. so far the guards and the mainstream media have been the ones on the side of the people, not the protestors.

The Gardai response has been correct and understated. they have gained the admiration of most supporters of democracy in Ireland
Drunk protestors (i think thats the term they use, although i prefer thugs) have attacked and injured a female guard, proving their equal oppurtunity nature.

Why on earth did the crowd listen to the; 'let's go to the park' lobby.
It was such a daft consession to the brainless boozy testosterone riddled (probably fatherless) showoffs. Their behaviour is typical of young men who have not had a loving and responsible man as a role model.
This must have made the day for the prophets of doom that have been babbling in the popular media and made the gung-ho cops feel needed.
The 50 key confrontationalists would have looked rediculus had they not been backed up by the couple of thousand sheepish followers.
There was never any point in going near the park. It has just made the Guards and Army look as though they were right to be so over the top prepared. (did u notice that the water canons have been registered in Dublin- it looks like they are here to stay!)
However, any Guard who received a head injury while part of a force consisting of 5,000 highly equiped and recently trained individuals, should blame her bosses and not the crowd who were behaving in a highly predictable manner. In short, there should have been no guards whose head was exposed!!
it should be noted that all reports are highlighting that it was drinks cans that were thrown at the guards.
seemed from the media reports and pictures that the crowd was feuled by alcohol.
lescoo says the police were over prepared and yet suggest it was wrong for that female guard not to wear a riot helmet. the reasoning was that it would show trust on the part of the guards, trust that seems to have been misplaced.

It was the crowd who threw the object, not her bosses.. That is where the fault is.. Only when we realise this and stamp it out can we be taken seriously.. You, my friend, are an idiot!!!

in my view, the person who threw the first stone is not worthy of either of those words.

Thank you to our emergency services. By the way, guess what the ambulances would have been doing if they hadn't been at one of your pet riots? Attending to sick, injured and dying people. I wonder how many of these people needed an ambulance while they were engaged at your emptyheaded 'protest'.

Who wants to talk abou the rejection of the Nice rfrendum and the undmorcratic overturning of that decision?
Who wants to talk about the same thing that they did ten years ago in denmark shooting 13 demonstrators after a state rerun of a referendum which ahd been backed by all the unions and parties but rejected by the people.
Tonight, people in Dublin exercised their backbone. Against demonisation, police repression and the partyu political block, we are seeing the emergence of a new generation who will not accept the rule of capital.
Full marks to all of you who protested in Dublin. You stuck your necks out to oppose the crooked little sleeveens and moneygrabbers who have wormed their way into power in Ireland.
It pains me to see what you have had to put up with.
