Indymedia and SIPTU present "Friend or Foe", the opening film for a monthly screening night (on the last Thursday of the month in Liberty Hall).

Friend or Foe documents the bitter struggle of contracted workers at KT (Korean Telecommunication) against globalisation. Under the imperatives of structural adjustment, KT forced workers to work under "non-regular" contracts at lower pay, heightened job insecurity and limited legal protection vis-à-vis regularly employed workers. When the company announced its new "downsizing" plan in 2000, they fired 7,000 contract workers. The targeted workers launched a new union and waged a bitter struggle. Friend or Foe exposes the serious situation imposed by globalisation on workers compelled to accept temporary status and provides critical analysis of the weaknesses of the current labour movement. Directed by award-winning female director Jiyoung Lee, who won the Best Documentary prize at the 2002 Pusan International Film Festival.

Admission is only €5. Film starts at 7pm. Duration 89 minutes. Korean with English subtitles.

Please come and support Indymedia Ireland.

Thanks to Indymedia for last night , these film nights need support in order to last and will be a very positive thing . Porco Dio collective are hosting a benefit night for us (Revolt) next thursday with a wide diverse selection of bands and artists , it would be great if people could attend to listen to good music and support independent media ...

The Revolt Video Collective will be presenting a short documentary on the anti war protests around the 1916 commemoration before the main feature of Friend or Foe.

We hope you can make it down.

At this stage now I've seen countless activist and struggle type films, the narrative structure of which rarely wavers from the standard. I saw Friend or Foe about a year ago, and its amazing, a real breath of fresh air. The Korea Telecom workers commitment, methods (wait til you see their "Project @" action!!) and dedication is truly inspirational. The film has just the right mix of workers issues and direct action... looking forward to seeing it again.

Going blind. It's on in April not March. SBT. So plenty of time after all. Now we can get the word around. Sooooo excited!

This is a great initiative. It is not known about very much in SIPTU. Even some SIPTU friends of Indymedia didn't know about it. Get the advance timetable out to the Branches and the activists. Give more notice next time. Great stchuff! Great potential.
