Justin Trudeau wants to prorogue Parliament to buy time before the election. Voters will punish him for it, says Prof James Allan, but it's a mistake he must be allowed to make without activist judges getting in the way.

Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Iraq Warship at Dublin Port

category international | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Tuesday June 20, 2006 14:37author by P - Panaite Report this post to the editors

UK largest warship is coming to Dublin

Normally you do hear about these type of visits until very soon to the date, so this is interesting. Daily Ireland reports HMS Ocean which has played a critical part in the early months of the Iraq invasion is coming to Dublin Port later this month.

A British Royal Navy ship that was involved in the invasion of Iraq will dock in Dublin port later this month.
HMS Ocean was deployed as part of the British task force supporting the US invasion of Iraq.

Anti-war activists last night criticised the visit of the British naval war ship.
“I would be very concerned about this visit if the ship has been involved in the invasion of Iraq,” said Roger Cole, chair of the Peace and Neutrality Alliance (Pana).
“If it has been involved in Iraq then I would think that this is just as bad as US military airplanes using Shannon airport.”
Pana will be hosting a meeting with the Irish Anti War Movement and the NGO Alliance this Saturday to discuss how to make the military use of Shannon a general election issue.
He said he would raise the HMS Ocean visit at that meeting.

Of course Trident is just an independent nuclear deterrent as well, and in no way encourages other people to want nukes as well.

I've a suggestion for you all.... well the good swimmers amongst you....
By far the most talked about "micro-left" protest ever done over here in Barcelona was the invasion by land, sea & air of the Forum in 2004. & I wager you'll attract lots of attention if you use the same methodology - rafts. http://indymedia.ie/article/65978#comment82109 & following 2 comments & video http://barcelona.indymedia.org/newswire/display/105925/...x.php

This how to make a short range raft to protest a long range assault ship:

* Collect water bottles, of the 5 or 8 litre kind, if you seal them they are "buoyant" as long as they are empty if you seal them and they are full they are "ballast" - Please note - you need "buoyancy".

* Attach many such bouyancy capsules to lengths of wood (non absorbant wood is best, a lick of flourescent paint will do )

* Hoist a flag - if you're my kind of person, a jolly roger will do. If you're RSF you'll probably go for the tricolour - & if you're SWP remember to laminate your posters as they might get soggy.

* Phone up Fox-news & its local equivalents & tell them you're launching a protest attack on HMS Ocean.

* make the phone call before you put to sea / river, a soggy mobile is like a soggy poster - it loses its power.

This time round there is sufficient time for all active anti-war/peace groups to voice their opposition autonomously or collectively to this pending visit.

We'll be on the streets

maybe there just merchant navy :/ anyway, heres a slightly off-topic question, It keep being put to anti-war activist that nobody was protesting back then in 50 yrs since military planes used Shannon so does anyone old enough remember any form of protest not so much protestors at the fence but at embassies and VIP visits or NGOs or academic voicing concern over Irelands involvement in any military action by a beligerant in a third country before 1991, and for the MTV generation pics and videos please?

Will there be a protest against this visit like there was to the JFK US military aircraft carrier almost a decade ago?
