Meath on Track: Navan Clonsilla Railway Photo Survey

category meath | environment | other press author Monday October 23, 2006 12:46author by Meath on Trackauthor address County Meath Report this post to the editors

Transport 21 must deliver rail to Dunshaughlin and Navan, Co Meath

The Navan Clonsilla railway closed in 1963. The track was lifted and later the land was sold off.

Meath on Track are campaigning for the line to reopen and have compiled a photo survey of the alignment, showing the remaining infrastructure.

Thousands of commuters from Navan and beyond spend up to 5 hours per day trapped in their cars to travel the 30 miles to Dublin city centre.

Previously promised for a 2004 and 2010 delivery, Transport 21 now lists rail to Dunshaughlin and Navan as 2015.

Meath on Track have compiled a photo survey of the remaining infrastructure along the line at a photo-survey at the below link.

As Iarnród Éireann have outlined a 5 year restoration period for the line, it is Meath on Track's hope that the government will fast-track this project to ease congestion along the N3 and particularly in Dublin.
