offsite link Fifty Ways to Leave the European Convention on Human Rights Fri Apr 19, 2024 17:28 | Dr David McGrogan
Rishi Sunak has once again been dropping hints about leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. This is not credible, says Dr David McGrogan: such a feat would require a Government far more serious than this one.

Up to half of excess deaths in American nursing homes were due to the impact of lockdowns and mitigation measures on frail residents rather than the virus, according to new analysis.

The great Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume would have some things to teach today's woke activists, says Prof James Allan: about a mind-independent reality that has no truck with claims of 'my truth'.

offsite link Farmers? Biggest Problems are Green Ideologues, not Climate Change Fri Apr 19, 2024 09:00 | Ben Pile
It's been a wet winter and this is bad news for farmers, says Ben Pile. But with agricultural yields increasing sharply over recent decades, there's no reason to link it to climate change or start catostrophising about it.

Shannon Protest - Pics

category limerick | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Monday October 30, 2006 23:22author by Dave Report this post to the editors

The protest march in Shannon was a very dignified and poignant reminder of the ongoing slaughter of innocents in Iraq.

The placing of the coffins at the entrance to the airport was a direct challenge to the ongoing complicity by the Irish Government in this illegal war. The mood of the march throughtout was sombre but peaceful. The heavy security presence which surrounded the march had an appearance of unreality. A coach full of Gardai from Rossort, Helicopters, mounted Gardai, constant camera surveillance and alsatian dogs! Just like the ones used in Abu Gharaib against prisoners to frighten and intimidate. Over 2,000,000 dead in Iraq since the early nineties and those who protest face alsatian dogs. Was it Chomksy who said something about how the media ultimately normalise insanity?

Well taken shots. They give a good sense of the 'funeral'.

Funny crowd the SWP - they only attend IAWM anti-war events. Seems the IAWM/SWP are fast becoming an insular cult. It would have been good to see them weigh in with everybody else at Shannon but, on the plus side, it brought the number of paper sellers down to about one.

Yes he was along with Pat O'Sullivan, also of Cork SWP, and fair play to them. But that was it! None of their so-called anti-war leaders like RBB.

Good collection of mostly interesting speakers at rally.

Apart from the open mike at the end, the speakers were the three former US interrogators (Joshua Casteel, Stephen Lewis, Tony Lagouranis), a former Irish army commandant (Edward Horgan), two former top CIA analysts (Kathleen & Bill Christison), historian and former anti-war prisoner (Fintan Lane), columnist with Village and AWI speaker (Harry Browne), & two acquitted Pitstop Ploughshares (Ciaron O'Reilly & Deirdre Clancy).

Is that everyone? Open mike gave time to Maggie Roynane of Galway, a guy from Socialist Youth, a religious fella who said a couple of prayers, a Cork AWIer, a member of the IAWM.
