How the PSNI encourages racism

category antrim | rights, freedoms and repression | opinion/analysis author Wednesday November 22, 2006 23:14author by clodagh

Here's how the PSNI initiates racism in communities.

Heres how the PSNI initiates and instills racism in a community.

Take south belfast, the PSNI have been visiting local store keepers within the ormeau rd area recently warning of foreign looking people, possibly eastern european looking types passing fake currency. So they encourage shopkeepers and shop staff to monitor foreign looking people closely, this enables and legitimises racism, enabling racist attitudes to foreign looking people who may just be mixed race, such as refusing to serve foreign looking people, refusing to accept currency off foreign looking people even though staff have the technology to detect fake currency, many racists don't use this and just take the opportunity to refuse service to ethnic minorities.

Or alterntively they might have had a number of shady eastern european gang members pass off fake notes in that area and due to becoming aware of that fact actually DIDTHEIR JOBS and warn local businesses and tradesman to watch out for the fake notes. At no point did the PSNI say 'don't serve anyone looking or sounding foreign', they just provided relevant intel to try and combat criminal activity.

If you have evidence of an officer being overtly racist, report it. Don't twist genuine crime prevention strategies to support your already deluded personal ideology.

what a sad excuse for a journalistic piece this is. The PSNI are just doing their jobs by warning of counterfeit currency being passed. This is what they are paid for.

If a black/white/japanese/eastern european person is alleged to have committed an offense and the police issue a description of the person including their ethnicity in this description, this does not entail racism.

And what is this supposed to mean "enabling racist attitudes to foreign looking people who may just be mixed race". What difference does it make whether somebody is mixed ethnicity or pure ethnicity or foreign? Get a grip on yourself.

Are the Gardai alos guilty of racism when they warn parents in north DUblin about the black man who has attempted to abduct school girls? Surely both the Guards and the PSNI are only supplying accurate information?

The Gardai also discriminate against Irish people. I've suffered the indignity of having shop keepers check my notes as they've been warned that Irish people are using fake notes.

Christ, what a pile of tosh this story is.

Most Shops have the technology to detect fake/counterfeit notes, yet they choose not to use them and discriminate against foreign looking people. Who is a an eastern european looking type anyway?.

Most crime is perpetrated by local criminals.

Recently 3 generations of an english family in the UK were prosecuted for the biggest counterfeit racket ever which threatened the banking system.

Northern Ireland has always been the dumping ground for unpalatable right wing public figures eg Lord mountbatten, enoch powell etc, and recently it has seen a large influx of english police joining the PSNI, bringing with them their weird prejudices and backwardness, moving to Northern Ireland to escape the mulitculturalism of mainland UK.

yes...I can see it now, the far right leaning officers of the PSNI dreaming up new ways to harass those damn foreigners, after having emigrated in order to be able to do this...please. Alot of smaller shops don't have the technology to check notes, those smaller shops that do don't use it for every transaction. The technology most often used, ultraviolet, is not 100% as notes washed in your trouser pocket come up as fake. And where is this statistic to be found about the proximity of criminals' addresses to the scene of the crime Yvonne/Clodagh?

I have heard many a bad argument in my time on Earth but calling this racism is about the worst. You residents against racing types or whatever ur names are need to get out more. Report on real issues, this drivel will mean people switch off when they hear the word racism.
