The centenary of a Belfast strike when Catholic and Protestant workers united briefly is being marked in Dublin. More than 5,000 dockers downed tools for four months in the 1907 Belfast Lockout for better pay and conditions. |

theres a good story from the strike. Sexton who was general secretary of the National Union of Dock Labourers came over from london after the RIC went on strike. he gave a bizarre speech which ended with: "I see no difference between a man who works with a shovel and a man who works with a truncheon"!(1) I guess he saw them as workers in uniform.
