The Right has spent much of the last decade railing against cancel culture, and was arguably winning the debate. It would be a mistake to abandon that position now.

A Nation Once Again ?

Irish polotics

The sad thing with the recent election result is that no matter how we view it, we all lose. We all seemed to have sold out. We have all seemed to have ignored our natural reactions and protected our assets over the welfare/well-being of others. It may be to late when misfortune comes calling on us to realise that it is morally indefensible to have let opportunity continually pass. It seems somehow naive to ignore the plight of those less fortunate then ourselves, and then demand that more money is be spent protecting us from the people who's suffering we have found so easy to ignore. Do we really need to have a lot of people take their and possible their own children’s lives before we consider out of hours psychiatric help a good idea. A health society would seem to be one in which a pro-active approach to health is at the very least considered. The recent debate surrounding the location for a new children’s hospital, seemed to detract from the really important issues, such as are we building a hospital with present and future needs being looked at, or are we going to build one in which we will ten years down the road realise all the things we should have considered. The current election aside, when will we see real change, because that’s what we are really waiting for, the ability of our political leaders to take new approaches to the issues that this country is facing. With our not so distant past being one of oppression you would think that the natural response of any People would be heightened vigilance, where in fact it would seem to be that we have learned that we are in fact helpless. This feeling of helplessness would seem to be something that our politicians have learned that they can take for granted. The spins during the recent election are there for those of us willing to see them, you can always detect a spin by looking at the public attitude and perception before information is released, and then the change in these perceptions and opinions that followed. Political parties to change the direction of people’s attitudes now spend thousands, and often we don't even know what hit us. I for one feel that its time that we stop, and help those less fortunate, less our turn rolls around, and no help is coming. The ethos of politicians ignoring the plight of the people, while finding short cuts to facilities that the rest of us are deigned, is morally sick.
No sorry, I'm not just a person only willing to look at the negative issues, truth is I really do believe that change can happen, however I also believe and have experienced that change happens slow in this country if at all, and I believe if change is to come it will most definetly require our involvement and be driven not by politicians, but us ordinary folk. What ever any of our voting choices were, lets please try and agree a change is needed for the future.
