Lobbying The Green Party and others

category national | politics / elections | press release author Tuesday June 05, 2007 10:08author by Eugene Mc Cartan - Communist Party of Irelandauthor email cpoi at eircom dot netauthor phone 01-6708707 Report this post to the editors

Try and influence the discussions on the formation of the new government

The CPI calls upon left and democratic opinion to urgently lobby the Green Party T.D's along with other left and independent T.D's those potential coalition partyies and raise the question of the use of Shannon Airport and other Irish facilities by the USA Airforce and the importance of Rossport and the democratic control of the Natural resources around our coast.

Please e-mail the T.D's and ask your friends to do the same.

COMMUNIST PARTY OF IRELAND
James Connolly House, 43 East Essex, Temple Bar, Dublin 2:

2nd June 2007

Dear comrade.
The current attempts by the political establishment to cobble together a government from either a combination of political parties or with independents provide a unique opportunity to push important questions onto the political agenda: questions which received little or no attention during the recent General Election. In this regard I would like to highlight two issues in particular.

Firstly: The question of the use of Shannon Airport by the US Air force and the CIA in its ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the campaign to end of this practice.

Secondly: The question of Rossport and the ownership and control, not just of the Corrib gas field, but also of all natural resources in and around our country.

Now is the time to develop an intense lobbying of those parties and individuals who may or may not be part of the next government. By this I mean the Labour Party, Green Party, Sinn Fein and progressive independents.

Fianna Fail and all the establishment parties will concede that class sizes are too big, the need for more money in health etc. Such statements will cost them nothing more than words.

In order to open up the political ground we believe that key political questions need to be addressed and pushed. Political questions that push the establishment up against their political masters either in Washington or Brussels and expose their compliance with imperialism, that their own selfish interests and status are of greater concern to them than those of our nation and people.

We believe that these demands would advance democratic accountability to the people and secure real advance and have the support of the majority of the Irish people. Below are the e-mail addresses of the TDs that should be lobbied. Please be respectful and address them in a manner that you yourself would like to be addressed. Let us not miss the opportunity to push forward.

If you are a member of another political organisation or group draft your own letter pass on this or your own letter to friends and supporters. We need to try and make it a people’s campaign.

Yours respectfully.

Eugene Mc Cartan
General Secretary

This posting by the Communist Party of Ireland further exposes their Stalinist illusions in the "progressive" Bourgeois. The left should not sow illusions in so-called left-liberals such as Greens, Labour & Sinn Féin. The CPI say they are Marxists, yet they "lobby" openly pro-capitalist politicians with the aim of influencing the new Government's policies. If the CPI were really Marxists they would realise that big business influences pro-capitalist Parties and Governments NOT emails from working class people. The CPI must have now completely given up on working class struggle and now seem to be nothing more than a soft left lobby group crossed with a political discussion club.

FYI Just Attended a pre negotiation meeting recently and members were coming out strongly on issue of shannon. Sundays member vote should be interesting. Personally I am hoping that they will make movement on shannon a deal breaker

So when Joe was the tactical group leader of the Independents in the Dail, did he have a prolonged momentary lapse of proletarian reason? Was he not engaging in bourgeois delusions?
Is a new line developing now that the SP don't have any TD's? Grassroots activism good - Engagement with the Dail bad.

joe was great in the dail, whatever his reasons for being there. The only Pity is that the proletariat decided in their infinite wisdom not to vote him back. We have all lost out because of their decision. Well I guess democracy is a reflection of the will of the people but it doesn't necessarily translate into wisdom.

so what were the options on shannon

author by greenie - personal capacitypublication date Fri Jun 08, 2007 16:29author address author phone Report this post to the editors

some suggestions put forward, more or less in order of popularity

(1)total deal breaker if no agreement on cessation of use
(2)full referendum on neutrality
(3)watertight legal locking down any further use of irish airports for military purposes (to prevent iran use / creep to knock etc) and phasing out current use
(4)mandatory searches, more transparency (probably useless in practice)
