category international | environment | other press author Sunday July 08, 2007 14:16author by Channel4 Report this post to the editors

A story on shell polluting Carrowmore lake has been removed from the channel 4 website

A story claiming to have found proof of shells contamination of the drinking supply for 10,000 people of north mayo has been removed from the Channel 4 website.
the link http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/society/environme...68972 on the homepage of shell to sea http://www.corribsos.com/ showed the story but has been removed by C4 in the last few days. and cant be found anywhere on the C4 website.
however the clip from C4 news is still there (an oversight I assume) http://www.channel4.com/player/v2/player.jsp?showId=7214
Is this a coincidence, or was there pressure applied to C4 to remove the text of the story

"A gas refinery under construction in the west of Ireland has become the focus of an environmental battle, amid claims that aluminium from the works is getting into tap water.

The Irish Republic's rapid growth since the 90s has made the Dublin government keen to develop new fuel supplies - such as the Corrib offshore gas field, discovered a decade ago.

But the construction by Shell of a gas refinery at nearby Erris has run into strong opposition in the area. And More4 News has discovered evidence to support local fears, as Girish Juneja reports from County Mayo. "

full written report about situation here, not sure if the film can be viewed now

ALUMINIUM:

AluminIum is harmful to all life forms. It damages all types of tissue.

Aluminum is a protoplasmic poison and a pernicious and persistent neurotoxin.

No living systems use aluminium as part of a biochemical process. It has a tendency to accumulate in the brain and bones.

The danger is one that only manifests itself over long periods of time. It is therefore prudent to avoid consumption. Avoidance is currently the best way of protecting you and your family from the serious, long-term damage that can result from ingestion.

Pregnant and lactating women, the young and the elderly are at risk.

The most effective way of preserving your mental acuity in to your later years appears to be eliminating the sources of aluminum in the diet.

Give me Galway water any day. Enjoy your drink!
