Gormley upset over bird death but not Iraqi death

category national | anti-war / imperialism | opinion/analysis author Monday September 03, 2007 11:24author by Zippy Report this post to the editors

Green Minister John Gormley has express his upset and outrage over the shooting of a Red Kite in Wicklow. Meanwhile his government continues to back the US war effort in Iraq where human beings die.

Green party Environment Minister John Gormley is reported in the papers as being upset and angry over the shooting dead of a bird in Wicklow. The Red Kite was one of 30 released into the wild. A hunter shot it from the sky last week. This is a shocking act indeed, a rare bird killed for sport not for need. Gormley is rightly upset.

However seeing as he is part of a government that is actively aiding the US war effort in Iraq you have to take it that his urgent anger is somewhat misplaced. The US government is also sabre rattling over Iran. Emboldened no doubt that for all the opposition to their adventure in Iraq no one in Europe actually obstructed their war. As the British run out of Iraq in defeat and the US mounts its latest surge a friend of the american people would be making every effort to dissuade them from the awful vista they are openig up for the world.

Actually forget about that lets look after the red kites instead.
