On the other hand, if it is an overgrown rose and not a small head of cabbage, with a star against a red background and a muscular hand grasping the rose, maybe here is a different interpretation:

A robust Rose of Tralee is embarrassed to be in the grip of a hopeful bachelor farmer.

Visually unenticing to say th least - looks too much like T. Blair's red rose of 'New Labour UK'. Still, do yr bit SDLP & support the people.

SDLP youth pretending to be socialist wont make them any more vibrant or active will it??

What do I see in that logo of SDLP Youth? It looks like a small head of cabbage held in the fist, with a single star shining gloriously in the sky.

So what does it symbolise then? I'll take a guess - The Star-Spangled Cabbage is in Somebody's Firm Grip.

Any alternative interpretations on a postcard please.

Isn't that what being a student is all about, though? Plenty of time to build up your socialist self-identity before you move on to Stormont and Westminster and get down to a proper job in free-market capitalism.

Any real socialists in the SDLP? Quit. Trust me, you'll be happier...

If Sinn Fein youth can pretend to be republican, then SDLP youth can pretend to be Socialists.
