Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Mark Zuckerberg's repudiation of Covid-era censorship is welcome. But it's not enough, say Josh Stylman and Jeffrey Tucker. Without a public reckoning they will just do it all again when a cause seems urgent enough.

Shell and BP salivating over Iraqi oil

category international | anti-capitalism | other press author Thursday February 07, 2008 11:47author by Miriam Cotton Report this post to the editors

'Hands off Iraqi Oil'

Letter in today's Guardian about how these two vultures are squawking for a slice of the blood-soaked action.

"Thursday February 7, 2008
The Guardian

Your report that "BP has been holding meetings with Iraqi oil officials as it speeds up plans to re-enter" the country (Report, February 5) is disturbing. Both Shell and BP - with British government assistance - have been pushing the Iraqi government to pass legislation that would allow foreign oil companies to control most of Iraq's oil reserves, depriving Iraqis of scores of billions of dollars. Such an effective privatisation of Iraq's key natural resource is opposed by Iraq's trade unions, many senior Iraqi oil experts and most Iraqis. On February 23, people will be at petrol stations around the country to highlight the role of Shell and BP in this looming theft of Iraq's future. We urge readers to join us.

Now where have we heard this before?

"Written by Bush and Blair's big oil business partners who serve as the leaders' advisors on foreign policy, the new Iraq hydrocarbon law opens the door for international investors, led by BP, Exxon and Shell, to siphon off 75 percent of Iraq oil wealth for 30 years. This economic model is called a "Production Sharing Agreement." But is a 75/25 split, with bloated oil companies taking 75 percent of the country's wealth and leaving just 25 percent for the devastated Iraqis, a sharing agreement or an armed robbery? "
