Iraqi Freedom Congress Holds Conference in Alexandria

category international | anti-war / imperialism | news report author Wednesday May 14, 2008 15:55author by pat c Report this post to the editors

The Iraqi Freedom Congress held the first conference of its Babylon chapter in the city of Alexandria on May 10, 2008 . The event was attended by 79 delegates from the cities of Alexandria, Jabala, Hilla and Kifl. Samir Adel President of the IFC, Abu Kifah secretary of the Central Council, Saeed Nima, Abu Watan and Naeem Moosa Central Conuncil members also attended.

The conference opened with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of war and occupation. Then the delegates voted on the standing orders committee and the agenda of the conference, which included the political situation in Iraq, the standing of the Iraqi Freedom Congress, a discussion with the IFC leadership present and chapter elections.

On the political situation in Iraq and the IFC ; Samir Adel spoke about the new factors that emerged in the David Petroais-Ryan Crocker report that was published on April 9, 2008. He also spoke about the political crisis afflicting the occupation scenario. He talked about the ongoing fighting between the government militia and Sadr's militia, which he described as a crisis of political Islam in Iraq's Shiite community.

He added that resolving the political situation in Iraq would not come through the political process which is built on the policy of national and sectarian division and continuation of conflict over powers evolved by the occupiers and petty influence. Therefore the only alternative was to expel the occupation forces, dissolve all of its institutions, and to form a secular non-ethnic state in which people are identified on the basis of humanitarian identity.

He also said that changing the current conditions would not be an easy task; however it was not impossible as long as there are people who were prepared to raise the banner and policies of the Iraq Freedom Congress.
