Justin Trudeau wants to prorogue Parliament to buy time before the election. Voters will punish him for it, says Prof James Allan, but it's a mistake he must be allowed to make without activist judges getting in the way.

Jordan Peterson should make his mind up about Christianity, critics say. Prof James Alexander disagrees: he's a profound Jungian explorer who wants to help a secularised world see why Christianity still matters.

Lisbon Rejection - Attorney General should act

category international | eu | press release author Tuesday June 24, 2008 16:11author by Malachy Steenson - The Workers Party Report this post to the editors

Attorney General called on to act

In a statement the Workers Party have called on the AG to move to proctect the sovereign position of the Irish people

The Workers Party have today called on the Attorney General to act immediately to protect the Constitution and the sovereign will of the Irish people.

Speaking on Liffeysound Radio this afternoon Malachy Steenson PRO Dublin Region of The Workers Party said that

“the Attorney General as legal adviser to the Government has a duty to ensure that the Government acts Constitutionally. He must advise the Taoiseach that the Irish people are sovereign and they have expressed that sovereignty on the 12th June and rejected the 28th Amendment.

That amendment asked the people to allow the government to ratify the Treaty of Lisbon and to permit Ireland to become a member of the Union that would flow from that Treaty. The people have refused that permission”.

The Attorney General must advise the Taoiseach that the only mandate he has is to inform the European Union that the Treaty has been rejected and it must be binned”.

As a TD the Taoiseach is the servant of the people, a literal translation of Teachta Dail is a messenger to the Dail. He is only empowered to carry a message from the people, that message as freely expressed by the people in referendum is that the Treaty is dead.
