Healthcare is a right not a privilege! Following on from the success of the March last 29th March and representative Conference 26th April the Public Health Care Campaign believes that we should continue the pressure. If we don't stand up for our rights and a better health service we won't get it.

We are hoping that we can count on your attendance at our upcoming peaceful rally in Dublin. Held during World Animal Week, ARAN is using this opportunity to call for tougher animal protection laws in the new animal welfare bill and to raise nationwide awareness of cruelty inflicted upon animals in Ireland. This important rally is sure to create a positive frenzy on the streets of Dublin and with the national media and we hope you will be a part of this exciting experience! The organisers welcome the co-operation of those who have connections with their 'communities'. They could contribute greatly to the success of 11th October by employing their political capabilities and organising a large contingent from their particular community. From Cabra, say.

Full marks to the unknown volunteers for the work of distributing the leaflets for the march around the Infirmary Road area. However it seems that some of them at least do not have the heading indicating the organisers of the march, or have had the heading removed. There has been one complaint (the contact details were left on) about anonymous leaflets and anonymous events; an understandable one.
THE FAMILY of a woman who died in the toilet of the AE unit at Dublin's Mater hospital earlier this year after waiting hours for a bed has urged the public to turn out in large numbers for a protest march against health service cuts on Saturday.

The flyer has those details. But it's OK to be tired.
Your Health - Your Protest
2 pm Saturday 11th October 2008
Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square, Dublin 1.
Having recently brought my toddler to Aand E at the Lourdes, waiting 5 hours and then being charged 60 quid for it I definately want to go to this..
- but the flyer doesnt give a time or a place to start the rally (unless Im so tired I just cant find it)!
Please can you update it to give thse details. I feel really strongly about the state of the health service here, why doesnt Ireland have a National Health Service free for all people, with high quality care for all.
Seems to me that there is a lot more that should be 'happening' within OUR Health Service.
Unfortunately a Bad Attitude is Running Overtime ,Snobbery is Rife, even in Illness.
SAD BUT TRUE.
Message from Janette Byrne, former cancer patients and spokesperson for Patients Together :
Planning for the protest march of October 11th:
In recent years we have all heard of the horrendous way some cancer patients have suffered in our Health System.
* Late diagnosis. (Too late for our friend Susie Long and many others)
* Misdiagnosis
* No Beds
* Long waits for scans, chemotherapy, radiotherapy
* Some losing their lives not to cancer but to hospital acquired infections
As part of the ‘Public Health Service Campaign’s’ protest on the 11th of October and with your help we want to create a ‘bandanna bunting’
What’s involved:
* If you were a cancer patient you can bring a bandanna and pin it on with everyone else on the day.
* If you had a loved one who experienced cancer and you wish to pin a bandanna on their behalf that is fine also.
* Bandannas may be signed and include a message.
* We want to make this cancer patients support as large as possible.
* If you are unwell and unable to attend the protest you can post your bandanna to 82, Finglas Park Dublin 11
* Conor MacLiam, husband of Susie Long, will pin up the first bandanna before the march
Only with your support will this happen.
Lets make this protest the greatest ever. We did it for the Antiwar campaign, we did it for Irish Ferries, we even did it in support of Bewleys; now your health deserves your support.
Please forward this message to others

The crisis in the health service goes on and on. For a first hand account of the experience of an elderly woman in the Mater this week see this link:- http://ballymunsocialist.wordpress.com/
Even getting a trolley in A&E after hours is now a privilege. And we're still months from the winter.
Let's build a big turn-out for October 11.
