When Dicey summarised the principle of parliamentary sovereignty he wrote: "Parliament can do everything but make a woman a man and a man a woman." Alas, thanks to the European Court of Human Rights, that's no longer true.

How long does the children have to wait for a Accident and Emergency unit to come to Wicklow.

category wicklow | environment | press release author Sunday September 14, 2008 17:17author by Mr.Peter Brady Alias. - Concerned Citizens Action Committee. Report this post to the editors

Civil right.

This is our second statement.

Dear Citizens and Friends.

We are delighted to see the positive comments on this particular statement. As you can all see there is a number of serious issues that needs comment on,which up to now has been ignored by our local politicians which is totally unacceptable for the people living in Wicklow and Wexford. As we all know the situation at Loughlinstown hospital in relation to a accident and emergency unit for sick children is not exsistent and that the H.S.E. are operating on a make believe policy at this hospital. When the parents arrive with their sick child at this hospital they sign in at the reception and then are left waiting to see the triage nurse. The nurse surveys the situation for the doctor in which he reads her report and then writes up a letter referring the whole matter to Our Lady's Hospital for sick children in dublin without seeing the child.

This whole matter could take at least sixty minutes before the parents get the referral letter from the doctor. How we know this is because some of members in the Concerned Citizens Action Committee have experienced this situation at the hospital, which is totally unacceptable in the year 2008 we say it is time for the H.S.E. to come clean with the people and let them know the type of policy they are operating at the hospital, which will save everybody a lot of time and particularly for the sick child who needs them vital minutes in seeing a doctor. We are calling on the H.S.E. to make a public statement on the matter at hand and for the local politicians,Bray Chamber,Bray Town Council,Greystones Chamber,Wicklow County Council to start pulling their weight on the subject seeing that they have no problem in getting zoneings and planning permissions through the high rise apartments, but at the same time will deny the children and their parents a Accident and Emergency unit.

It also needs to be made know that if the Minister for Health gets her way her plan is to close down two major children's hospitals south of the river liffey, leaving us with no cover at all which will add extra burden and stress on the child and its parents who would be travelling a very long distance. We at the Concerned Citizens Action Committee say refurbish our lady's hospital in dublin and leave it where it is,and build a state of the art hospital north of the river liffey.

And finally we are calling on the Minister for Health in providing a Accident and Emergency unit for sick children to be built on the hospital lands of Loughlinstown which would be the proper and humane way to go,instead of the persuing of a policy of privatisation, which is simply not working for the people. We would ask of you to show a bit more compassion and consideration and find it in YOURSELVES to deliver on a proper health service, one that we should all be proud of and not just words.

if you want to get in contact with us email us at fightingcorruptioninwicklow@hotmail.com we want to hear from the voices of the people now who are affected greatly by this and not the chronies.
