SR Technics Workers bring Dublin to Standstill.

category dublin | worker & community struggles and protests | news report author Sunday March 15, 2009 13:15author by Paula Geraghtyauthor email mspgeraghty at yahoo dot ieauthor phone 0876101340 Report this post to the editors

Friday 13th March over 500 workers from SR Technics marched through Dublin City Centre to lobby the EU Commision Office in Dublin to make the Zurich based company change it's mind about relocating a profitable and highly skilled industry from Dublin to Abu Dabi.

Workers are angered that after many years of service all that is being offered is basic statutary redundancy. There was no offer of negotiations to have pay cuts nor to examne cost cutting measures- just a sudden pullout of Dublin airport, without warning.

SR Technics workers had led off the ICTU national Day of protest along with Waterford Crystal workers to demonstrate that the attack on the pension levy was not merely a matter for the private sector but for all workers.

Last week workers from SR Technics marched to the Swiss Embassy on Ailsbury Road from Sidney Parade Dart Station to lobby the Swiss ambassador.

SR Technics is owned by a consortium of investors from the United Arab Emirates made up of Mubadala Development, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) and Istithmar. Board and management of SR Technics hold a minority share. Union and workers will focus another part of their campaign towards these investors who are devastating their lives and communities.

From the SR Technics website:

We are a responsible member of the society that we serve.

Staff
Our employees fulfil tough and often unplanned assignments and recognise the huge responsibility that we carry for the safety and reliability of the aircraft in our care. Day after day, we deliver exceptional performance of which we can be proud. To enable us to deliver, our people are thoroughly and regularly trained. We offer attractive opportunities to our employees enabling them to pursue their individual professional goals in a challenging yet rewarding working environment.

Ethics
We treat all our stakeholders honestly and fairly. Our customers, employees, investors, suppliers and aviation partners can rely on us. We always keep our word and we strive to find fair solutions to any conflict that may arise. We do a thorough job and we give personal and cultural differences the respect they deserve.
