Republican Sinn Féin welcomes the release of two men from Antrim Barracks today. The 31-year-old and 27-year-old men had been held since Monday, 16th March. Republican Sinn Féin condemns the charging of a youth before a British court following his detention without charge for over 13 days by the British colonial police. The extended nature of his detention calls into serious question the veracity of any so-called 'evidence' being presented against him.
This follows very public and high profile requests from both Alex Maskey and Gerry Adams of the Provisionals that those in custody be charged immediately. The 17-year-old's period of detention was due again for renewal on Tuesday.
