category national | worker & community struggles and protests | news report author Wednesday March 25, 2009 11:16author by pat c Report this post to the editors

The Dublin City Post Primary branch of the Teachers Union of Ireland has called for the resignation of David Begg and has passed a motion of no confidence in the ICTU Executive Council.

The Branch also passed the following motion

This branch is alarmed at the lack of protest by the ICTU against the pension levy and the income tax increases for ordinary working people that are being proposed in the forthcoming mini budget.

The Branch commits itself to organizing a lobby and delegation of the ICTU calling for urgent action against the pension levy.

Paddy Healy, chair of the National Public Service Alliance said:

This is an indication of the extreme frustation on the part of public Sector workers at the lack of action on the part of ICTU and at ICTUs tacit acceptance of the pensions levy and cutbacks.

Paddy went to say:

The ICTU Excutive Council have no authority to call off the strike on 30 March, all ICTU can do is reccomend. The decision is up to indvidual Unions.

National Public Service Alliance Meeting Tonight:

A general meeting of the National Public Service Alliance will take place in the Teachers Club, Parnell Square at 8 P.M. on Wednesday next, March 25. It is expected that the recommendation of the Executive Council of ICTU on proceeding with the national stoppage on Monday, 30 March should be known by then.
