Why are climate alarmists so impervious to facts, so averse to rational cost-benefit analysis? It has all the hallmarks of a religious cult, says James Allan. They can't let it go because it gives meaning to their lives.

There's a climate emergency, so cough up, say insurers. It hasn't stopped them raking in billions, notes Chris Morrison. And no wonder: weather losses are actually down compared to 35 years ago. Time for a bit of honesty?

Is democracy dying? That's what everyone is saying. Killed by populism, apparently. Prof James Alexander suspects the educated classes may not know what they're talking about.

One Year Anniversary of the Collapse of PPP

St. Michaels Estate Family Resource Centre will mark the one Year Anniversary of the Collapse of Public Private Partnership in their area by holding a protest outside head office of Anglo Irish Bank. Tuesday 19th May 2009

One Year Anniversary of the collapse of the Social Housing Public Private Partnership projects

Date: Tuesday 19th May 2009
Time: 11.00am – 2.00pm
Venue: Anglo Irish Bank Head Office Stephen Court,
18/21 St. Stephens Green, Dublin 2

Residents and workers from St. Michaels Estate will mark the first anniversary of the collapse of the regeneration projects in their area with a powerful piece of dramatic protest outside Anglo Irish Bank. A small number of the protesters are to be dressed from head to toe in gold while the rest will be dressed in black. Those dressed in gold will be standing in a circle, each one in the ‘Golden Circle will represent the following; the Banker, the Golfer, the Property Developer & the Galway Tent attendee, whereas those dressed in black will have different slogans attached such as ‘Disgust’, ‘Greed’, ‘Corruption’ and ‘Immoral’ to name just a few.

This is a very poignant piece of dramatic protest as the lead developer who pulled out of 5 Social Housing regeneration schemes across Dublin is a member of the impenetrable ‘Golden Circle’. These residents put in countless voluntary hours into ensuring that regeneration of their area would lead to a sustainable community with all the facilities needed to create a safe & secure environment for their children and future generations. For them this was about life, children & community, whereas for the developer, Bernard MacNamara, this was just another chance to secure millions of euros from public land and to take advantage of the state’s incompetence in regards to Social Housing.
