Turf cutting will cease on 4% of the country's bogs between now and 2014, according to the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government.

Speaking at a Dáil committee, Mr Conor O' Reilly said that this represents 35,000 hectares from a total of 850,000 hectares.

He told the environment committee that one third of the designated area is already owned by the State.

trying to get a bit of talk going about all this climate camp stuff

We are still far from a true understanding by the majority of society as to the level of trouble we are facing, but, little by little we are getting there. A good example of how communities are re-acting, or, positively preparing for change are the 2 interconnected movements, both of which are growing rapidly, and virally around planet; transition movement and climate camp (ireland will hold its first such event this august)

The reference to the goings on in Peru, was just an aside, which was a sad reality. But it outlines how all this "climate stuff" is interconnected; communities being exploited (peru, rossport + many more), natural resources and ecosystems (that delicate system which allows us live) are being hacked away and burned up, cut up and traded for short term economic profit with the long term effects of worsening the climate situation, and or possibly pushing things into the danger zone (2 degree increase in global temperature and we will enter vicious feedback loop in which things will spiral out of control... IE, Ireland, the all day rain for all summer is nothing to the storms, floods etc, youll face soon, not mentioning the millions of climate refugees, broken economic, political world... )

anyway, i suppose, last post was just initial input to the "games" as it was put by original poster...

See yez in midlands in mid-august for climate camp

Eitherway, whatever your position, whatever you do...

Enjoy your adventure on this odd little planet.

4 weeks till "day of action".

What is the general feeling in Ireland at present toward the first Irish "climate camp", is there much awareness of the event, are much people organising things, the programme already looks quite impressive, i see Duncan Stewart is facilitating a discussion one of the days.

Overall, there seems to be not such a high level of discussion about climate camp, as strategy, tool, movement... etc

Just interested in seeing what peoples feelings, hopes, dreams are...

Thanks to all who are and have been organising to bring things were they are today...

By the way, seeing as there will be goings on in Offaly, any chance of getting Mundy down, and a few of his music mates, to play a few tunes and keep the sprits high?

As ever, Im hoping for, and even more so now feeling its possible, that post tiger Ireland will awaken and truly create a "green isle"

Regards from Barcelona

Dunk
