DIY 'No 2 Lisbon'

category kildare | eu | news report author Monday September 14, 2009 23:37author by Bazra B Report this post to the editors

A DIY ‘No 2 Lisbon’ poster has just been unveiled today
No 2 Lisbon
No 2 Lisbon

A DIY ‘No 2 Lisbon’ poster has just been unveiled today which is designed by Kildare artist Yaci, it’s aimed to allow anyone who wish to campaign against the 2nd Lisbon treaty referendum at a minimum expense to themselves.

Speaking earlier today the artist explained she had been influenced by old 60’s & 70’s political posters which often used cartoons and humour to get an effective message across, explaining further she added “ it’s been sickening to see the money being poured into the yes campaign by the likes of IBEC and Pat Cox to name but a few. This poster will in some small way allow people to get involved at a minimum cost to themselves, all people need to do is print it and post it around their local area”.

She explained the idea was to give the unemployed point of view after all it is them and vulnerable workers being targeted with promises of jobs if they vote yes and no work if they vote no adding “it’s very unfair in the way the yes side has decided to attempt to bribe the electorate with imaginary jobs when it’s the neo-liberal economics enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty that has caused this economic crisis which ordinary people are expected to pay the price”.

Finally she hoped the poster would be useful in the campaign against Lisbon 2 and called on people to vote no once more and see that democracy is upheld.

The posters are great.

Humour is a valid tool. I used the Muppets version of the Ode To Joy on my article. I'm surprised not to see more people make use of it.

Nice poster.

Anyone any idea if the poster has been used across the country?and if so where?

It's a good idea and decent experiment to see how effective something like this can be.

"It is up to the people of Ireland to decide for themselves how to vote come Oct. 2. We will not join the chorus of those who claim to know what's best for them. But it is regrettable that they are, once more, being forced to vote again, as if their first answer has been disallowed. "

This is from an astounding article in the Wall Street Journal which ridicules Lenihan and the Lads and their scare-mongering over Lisbon. It is eminently worth a read. If The Wall Street Journal is advocating indirectly a 'No' vote, what is Fianna Fáil and their yes-men up to?

Somehow Blair & Brown's clowns managed to rob UK citizens of their referendum; the people of Ireland made their opinion clear, but are being charged to have another vote on it! NO means NO!
