An Italian judge on November 4, 2009, convicted 23 CIA agents and two Italian agents over their role in the 2003 kidnapping of a Muslim cleric. Milan judge Oscar Magi sentenced former Milan CIA station chief Bob Seldon Lady (on left in PHOTO with Luciano Pironi) to 8 years and 22 other agents (PHOTOS) to 5 years in prison for their role in the abduction of Osama Moustafa Hassan Nasr, also known as Abu Omar. Also convicted was Air Force Colonel Joseph Romano (COLOR PHOTO), who was responsible for the CIA kidnapping team’s flight to Egypt from a U.S. air base in Italy.

Nasr was allegedly abducted from a street in the northern Italian city of Milan and flown to Egypt where he was tortured. He was released in February, 2007, and apparently was an innocent man, never charged.
Citing diplomatic immunity, Magi acquitted three other Americans, including the CIA’s former chief in Italy, Jeff Castelli. The futigive Americans were tried in absentia. One of the convicted, Sabrina de Sousa (COLOR PHOTO), admits to being a criminal, but claims she also should have received diplomatic immunity.
Magi sentenced two former Italian secret agents, Luciano Seno and Pio Pompa, to three years in prison.
But he invoked state secrecy in ruling that ex-Italian spymaster Nicolo Pollari and former secret agent Marco Mancini would not stand trial. They were among five Italians acquitted in the case.
Prosecutors had asked for jail terms of 13 years for Pollari and 10 years for Mancini.
"Today’s sentence shows that our legal action was legitimate," said prosecutor Armando Spataro, commenting on Magi’s verdict.
The landmark trial, which began in June 2007, is the first involving the CIA’s so-called "extraordinary rendition" program.
Subsequent Italian governments, including the current conservative government led by Silvio Berlusconi, have refused or ignored prosecutors’ requests to extradite the American defendants to stand trial in Italy.
Magi ruled the trial should continue after Italy’s highest court declared some key evidence inadmissible because it was considered classified.
Pollari and several other former Italian secret service officials invoked state secrecy and refused to testify at the trial. Pollari resigned over the affair.
Nasr’s wife Ghali Nabila last month claimed 5 million euros in compensation, while lawyers acting for Nasr sought 10 million euros in compensation for the distress he and his family suffered. Robert Lady’s house in Asti has been awarded to Omar.
Nasr was suspected of recruiting Muslim fighters to train in Afghanistan.

Bob Lady was really quite a career spook. He played a part in the 1980's under the Negreponte years in running arms out of Honduras through many military collaborators who recently affected a coup d'etat in that state to Nicuragua during the "Iran Contra" scandal years.

So what are we do if we see one of these CIA chap / chapettes?
Simple.
you don't call the Garda confidential hotline you use for reporting protesters exercising their constitutional rights to expression or assembly, nor do you call the Garda confidential hotline extension number set up to handle special queries and reports on fraudulent, blasphemous or embarassing Marian apparitions and unsuitably attired traveller teenage kids (of the female ilk).

you could try phoning up Interpol as this article suggests. Anyone ever see an Interpol emergency response van in their neighbourhood?
Or.........
you could simply drop a wet bag over their head, tie it nice and tight and drop them off in your local embassy of the peoples' republic of China or if you've got the ferry fare & a way with human trafficking the unusual Irish-British route - bring them to the North Koreans.

Not sure if Damien's question "Are these numbers legit?" applies to my post re Abu Omar and Shannon. If it does then the answer is yes, they are legit. See Amnesty International's report "Breaking the Chain: Ending Ireland's Role in Renditions" (pages 16/17).

It is important to make our Irish government and their agents realise that what they have done - and continue to do - violates human right norms and laws, makes them guilty of barbarity and crimes, and is indefensible.
Can we ring/text them and tell them what they are?
To our shame, the Irish government has aided and abetted these CIA agents as they went (and possibly still go) about their business of torture. The plane that they used to bring Abu Omar to be tortured, far away from US soil, was refuelled at Shannon on its return flight. Sadly the Irish authorities have repeatedly and steadfastly refused to investigate this grave violation of national and international law.
Abu Omar was abducted in Milan on 17 February 2003 by the CIA agents. He was taken to the joint US/Italian airbase at Aviano, Italy, and then flown to the US airbase at Ramstein, Germany. From there he was flown on a CIA-leased plane to Egypt where he was tortured. On 18th February 2003 the airplane with registration number NV85VM landed in Shannon airport at 5.52am directly from Egypt where it had deposited Abu Omar. It refuelled before leaving for the USA.
As the Irish authorities insist on helping these CIA torturers, there seems to be little point in contacting the local or national police here should they be on board - or even step off - another plane at Shannon. Repeated requests asking the police there to search known rendition planes have failed. So if anyone does see them on Irish soil, or suspects that they may be on it, by all means insist that an Garda Siochana do their duty and uphold the law. But please, contact Interpol as well.
