It’s gratifying to see the mature attitude of the organizers in Douglas St; it should be a jollyful day indeed! I was especially pleased to note the South Presentation Convent listed amongst the participating venues for the day’s events. In the past International Women’s Day has too often been billed as an exclusively feminist affair .The organisers’ inclusivity this year has shown that ,for the women of Cork at least , such rigid stereotypes may at last be breaking down. . That is very important because the stereotyping of women has in the past been one of the main obstacles to their empowerment.
(That isn’t to say that the good sisters of the convent are necessarily non-feminist of course.)
A copy of the programme of the day's events. Enjoy!
