Over 15,000 protest health cuts in Clonmel

category tipperary | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday March 31, 2010 18:57author by Paula Geraghtyauthor email mspgeraghty at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

Anger was palpable on the streets of Clonmel, particularly directed at Martin Mansergh, local Fianna Faíl politician and Mary Harney, who was described as 'an excuse for a human being'.

Over 15,000 people thronged the streets of Clonmel to protest the reduction of any of the acute services. A broad range of people spoke from the truck including consultants at the hospital, a local horse trainer and local GAA people.

Watch the video report here from Trade Union TV of the protest.

Mary harney is just serving the interests of her capitalist masters. A private paid for healthcare system cannot function as profitably in the presence of a working public option. It is necessary first to run the public system into the ground. This makes the private option seem much more attractive. Mary harney has been doing this very efficiently since she took over as minister for health. The same american corporations that are being sued left right and centre and fail the needs of the american people have successfully tendered for contracts here in Ireland. ( Her husband coincidentally gets work contracts from the health board and used to be head of IBEC at one point.surprise surprise ) Soon we'll have a crap but very lucrative system like the one in the US which just cares about money and does not provide for the basic health needs of the less well off in our community. Watch michael moore's "sicko" to get the general idea.
