The REPUBLICAN NETWORK for UNITY (RNU) Cathaoirleach/Chairperson, DANNY MCBREARTY, has slammed the invidious role played by MI5 and Strathclyde Police in targeting a member of our Scottish Branch/Cumann.
“Throughout the past year, Strathclyde Police has attempted to bribe, blackmail and bully young Republicans into working for the British Intelligence Services and become the next Denis Donaldson.
The latest approach was made to an RNU member when a short note was delivered to his home in Glasgow on March 29 2010. In Which, he was asked to contact D.C. Stewart Walsh from Strathclyde Police at xxxx xxx xxxx. Instead of phoning the number, he first consulted his Solicitor. The legal representative subsequently called the number which was not on the main Police HQ Switchboard.
However, the voicemail stated, ‘you have reached the BT Callminder for xxxx xxx xxxx’. The Solicitor then advised his client to contact him immediately if he continues to be hounded.
The Republican Network for Unity will not ignore the invidious part played by MI5 in attempts to pressure members of Republican groups to become agents of the British Crown. Therefore we call upon Politicans and Human Rights Organisations to condemn these sinister activities”.
