Brave farming couple Michael & Claire Hussey of Ballydooley, Dunamon, Co. Roscommon, had to remain silent through two hearing of their case as barristers argued the merits of a zoning issue against An Bord Pleanala, the Irish planning authority which overrulled the decision of Roscommon Co. Council prohibiting a Tetra-bearing mast less than 30 metres from their farmhouse. See photos and text. |

Jump To Comment: 1 2 3Sure there's now TETRA masts in every town and village on the Eastern region, normally on top of the local Garda stations. Its necessary for the new encrypted radio system we're told, but no one has actually examined the health risks posed by the always-on system.
Even the Police in the UK who use it have now got concerns and have been issued with instructions to keep their radio aerials pointing away from their bodies for long periods due to risk of radiation, and there's currently several officers taking court cases over contracting strange cancers.
They function the same as mobile masts, except that unlike mobiles which are only engaged when a call passes through the mast, TETRA is a two way radio system which is therefore always on and constantly emitting the same rate of radiation.
The new Wimax masts will bring fast broadband to the remotest regions of Ireland.
There is not the slightest evidence that they harm anybody.
Once upon a time some people believed that electricity and telephone wires would fry everybody.
Previous to that people resisted gas pipes coming into their homes.
All scarey new fangled stuff.
After a while (the next generation) the right to have have access to such technology became a "Human Right" no less.
"All scarey new fangled stuff."
The reason Armagh city does not have a railway station today is because the local astronomer in Armagh Observatory was afraid that trains would shake his telescopes.
(Not that the Dubliner Romney Robinson was afraid of innovation.
He invented the "Cup Anemometer" which is used to measure wind speed to this very day.)
