Before The Age Of FAS 'services'..

category dublin | eu | opinion/analysis author Tuesday August 24, 2010 22:06author by FAS SUBSIDISING A COMPANY NEAR YOU. - capitalism at its best Report this post to the editors

Before FAS existed ,there were training agencies in ireland such as MANPOWER AND ADCO..They were services that worked for the people and not for the purposes of furnishing their greens(euro)..

For example,300 people may be required for employment in a warehouse in cork and they would, have people working for manpower and adco, who have the necessary skills to train them, most would have 10+ years experience in a factory setting..
fasdonkeys_1.jpg

Most FAS employers are not even required to have training and it is only recently(last year) due to government changes, they put their untrained, unqualified,(some without any previous work exp),for a training course..

When FAS emerged, they put a lot of investment into their own furnishings, and were more suit and collar, than hands on.Since FAS started they have had a turbulent beginning, and that is not likely to change, when you have a government agency(YES GOVERNEMNT),in a sembiotic relationship with companies who they in turn subsidise(provide financial relief)to them, where do the general public fit into that equation..NOWHERE.Because if you observe your rights as a fas worker carfefully you will realise you are threading a very thin line and you are wide open to abuse depending on the employer.
Although you have rights and obviously like anybody who is employed you are entitled to avail of them.
The FAS complaints procedure is outlined on their webpage at fas.ie,but provides only their OWN agencies to investiage managers and supervisors..I have read an article that the FAS office in dublin has been innundated with complaints, and they were struggling to get through all of them.

There should be a training agency, that actually works for us,not against us.

FAS is there to make the social welfare statistics flatter the governement and make them look like they are doing their job, because when you work for FAS( even though you do not get the minimum wage) you are defined as a worker when it suits them, and unemployed when it suits them,so there is a VERY BIG AND WELL THOUGHT OUT SYSTEM ABUSE OF HUMAN / WORKERS RIGHTS BY FAS.For example your uemployed status, could be manipulated by an employer for his/her gain,in certain scenarios, and in my experience i have been subjected to this in a meeting room with one supervisor and company boss,i later complained to SIPTU and the FAS Community officer..
And this abuse of worker rights(being gray on the classification of whether you are employed by a. fas b.the company or c.you are just UNEMPLOYED...Given the oppurtune moment or scenario, they will let you know in due course..

This only works for FAS administration and staff who want to leap frog into respectability, not the community worker /ce worker, not the unemployed and not us the regular taxpayers, which is all of us.

If you ask any employee of FAS,what the main function of FAS is,they will not be enabled to answer that question with all honesty..As the function of FAS is to provide finacial releif to the likes of multi national companies and furnishing their own brand of 'TRAINING'..

Your position as a ce worker is to provide free labour..if you do not like it then why sign up??..If you have an issue with that you should take it up with your supervisor..

Should there be a better service out there, that works for the people, independant of governement ties, and business interests? The FAS economy, which is almost like a microcosm of what is going on in our nation state today..nepotism and corruption are rife in the FAS system.

If you notice FAS is always dealt a good card in the yearly budgets(but not a lot treacles down to the ce workers and facilities they should be able to avail of,such as courses),and many people on the top of the pile who were milking the system, got away scot free.

Do not be blinded by their multi million media coverage,FAS is not a training agency,it is a (GOVERNMENT)subsidy for business and GOVERNMENT relations,ce workers free labour are the bargaining chip of the government.

And it also looks good on the welfare statistics,it looks like the government is doing something for us,when they are not providing any jobs or attracting businesses to ireland and when businesses are getting free labour what do you expect?

There is a lot of FAS hype about oppurtunities .. There are none,as FAS is an 'AGENCY',with nepotism and greed as the life blood that flows through its self furnishing veins..

Bullying is also a huge problem in the FAS structure,it seems to be the culture in that workplace.

FAS interviews are not as open as they may appear either, most supervisors do not get the job on their own merit.

I know one FAS lady who got the job,(who had no previous work experience, none and was long term unemployed)because her mother held a more senior position in the FAS system.

Another supervisor was pushed out of her job to accomodate this letch of the welfare system..
She had no previous training and or qualifications, and 8 months into the job,FAS made it compulsory for her to go on a fas pass course,so she could say she is fully trained.
She now gets to fire and hire people just like an immature boss should..I have seen about 3 cases of unfair dismissal since i worked there, and was brought into the boardroom myself, her attitude was unprofessional and egotistical..

I HAVE WATCHED HER STANDBY AND DO NOTHING WHEN CE STAFF HAD UNREASONABLE WORK DEMANDS ON THEM BY THE LOCAL BOSS..SHE EVEN SUPPORTED THE LOCAL BOSSES BULLYING ATTITUDE TOWARDS STAFF AT THE CENTRE..

CE Schemes are just another big joke from FAS. They cost 392m(now 1 billion which is a lot of millions) every year taking the largest junk of the FAS budget. People can stay on them for 3 years and they are used by particular demographic groups to pump up their social welfare and retain benefits. Used by community groups, local authoritys etc as means of cheap labour, and offer very little in the way of training for real jobs. Forfas report found there was a 3 percent increased chance of job after doing one of these rather than staying on the dole. That's not much of an improvement considering the cost. Also Forfas found FAS's documentation and follow up of participants seriously lacking, surprise, surprise. Anyone whose found themselves out of a job in the last year or two gets fuck all help from FAS while other sectors use this budget and scheme inappropriately. FAS need Forfas to come along and do this review, what have they been doing the last ten years? Need I ask.

A wee pint of correction........Its was Anco, not ADCO.
''Before FAS existed ,there were training agencies in ireland such as MANPOWER AND ADCO..They were services that worked for the people and not for the purposes of furnishing their greens(euro)..''
I worked for Manpower and Anco back in the eairly eighties, it was the same old shit back then. Manpower, Anco, and todays FAS version is not about employment and oppertunities for the ordinary people. The real reason why we have FAS is so friends of friends in high places can secure high paying jobs. Just like ANCO, Fas is full of Directors and exsecutives who do fuck all and get payed well for doing fuck all.

and may i also add .....Fas schemes in certin areas are run by money grabbing local
know alls , some in these areas ( which cannot be named for legal reasons , ahem ) can
behave in such a manner as to be seen as 'pillars of society' ,i kid you not , they have the
POWER of selection and divil a bit do they care about the so called 3 year max , thats
lingo to them and their's i can assure you of that , it has become another form of corruption
in local area's it beggars belief , these schemes are tailor made for corruption , we have
the infamous day care centres , the 'commitees' , the 'qualified social workers' along with
the 'qualified drugs councellors' have risen from the ashes of FAS ,boneheads some , who
in my HUMBLE opinion sit behind a desk on their well fed arses making decisions they
are not qualified to make , some of the aforementioned 'roundies' love that desk with all
the trappings it brings 'with their new fangled responsibilities' it would make the local
moggies candidates for wheelie bins as a means of escape before aforementioned
moggies break out in laughter , and heaven help us should we even dare to give eye
contact to the new elite lest we face being listed as becoming too familiar with their ilk;

i had better stop before i give tooooooooooo much away .

There are no courses in FAS that bring you past the infamous FAS PASS LEVEL,and given the present training cuts,i personally asked for a course to bring me past certificate level, and they stated i would have to fund that course for myself,(they did offer me a life skills and cv techniques course) which was over 60 miles in the opposite direction, and had no relevance to the dircection i once hoped to take..
I gave four years of free labour to 'FAS SERVICES',i cannot believe they define it as such! There are a lot of staff in FAS,that when you make a valid complaint about bullying they just stick their head in the sand..

author by FASFAKESpublication date Fri Aug 27, 2010 13:33author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Even in the years of the boom they never invested good money into courses that would have people enabled to 'KNOW BEFORE THEY GO',which was the famous rhetoric back in the 90's and early 00's when i was happy and never had to rely on a self catering 'TRAINING AGENCY'..

http://www.limerickleader.ie/news/Former-Dell-staff-pic...04.jp

It doesn't make much sense for FAS to be funding courses for people i guess..eventhough they state they are a training agency??

I was on a FAS course and recieved no training, there are occasions where the workplace was completely out of control,i had an incident with a drug user who was a ce worker and was allowed to work there and make important descisions, and allowed to insult and slag every other ce worker off,she was there the longest so i guess she was part of the clique, that the manager should have been there to make instead, but instead the manager was off 'networking' with the big wigs..

THE FAS COMPLAINTS SERVICE DOES NOT WORK EITHER - I MADE A COMPLAINT ABOUT EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE THERE,AND THE LETTER WAS FORWARDED TO OTHER MORE SENIOR MEMBERS OF FAS STAFF,AND THE PERSON I WAS COMPLAINING,AND BEFORE I KNEW IT MY S**T FAS CE PISS TAKE JOB WAS ON THE LINE..

no correction, the title was know before you go,and you seemed to have mispelt anco, was that deliberate?
The FAS ads in the 90's were there to target the unemployed, and long term unemployed..It was a big campaign,FAS,for me was a good experience..i never witnessed anything like that, there was a few fas ce workers, who would not pull in..

author by FAS AD CAMPAIGNS AND SPACE PROJCETSpublication date Fri Aug 27, 2010 14:30author address author phone Report this post to the editors

Fas interviews as most of us do know are not open, and the FAS offices are full of ex failures who are only trying to frog leap into respectability when they know NOTHING ABOUT RESPECT.
Millions were spent of FAS AD campaigns and not much of that money went elsewhere, facilities in FAS are rubbish and not worth anybodys time i spent 6 months on a back to work course, which i had done previously,BUT FAS STATED IT WAS COMPULSORY AND IF I DID NOT COMPLETE THE COURSE IT WOULD MAKE FAS LOOK BAD.?
Scant euros are spent on Fas services for the people in my experience..Bullying is the FAS culture.
Your rights as defined by FAS,can range from you are unemployed to employed by either the fas company or the local business..THERE IS NO CE JOB PROTECTION FROM ABUSE OF YOUR RIGHTS.

AND A HEALTH WARNING FAS CAN SERIOUSLY DAMAGE YOUR CV..KNOW BEFORE YOU GO!

as for those who ''dont pull in'',are they the ones defending their rights?

Anco and MANPOWER DID WORK THEY DID EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAID ON THE TIN.

If workers needed HANDS ON TRAINING - THEY WOULD BE TRAINED AND PLACED - SIMPLE.

NOW FAS ARE DOING MORE CUTS,PEOPLE RECIEVING THEIR DOLE WILL HAVE IT CUT TO NOTHING.

author by FAS 'SERVICES' FOR WHO?publication date Fri Aug 27, 2010 14:42author address author phone Report this post to the editors

For most past and present ce workers i have worked with, they have found the FAS 'WORK' EXPERIENCE FRUSTRATING..
Fas advertise services such as education and training but provide nothing that is relevant to lets say the average laid off worker from a factory or sales office..MOST IS NOT EVEN BASIC STANDARD OF WHAT MOST EMPLOYERS WOULD EXPECT IF YOU WERE TO GET A MIN WAGE JOB OR OTHERWISE..
When you ask a FAS employer about services they will direct you to other companies who have advertisment pages on their website for ce jobs, which pay NEXT TO NOTHING for your efforts, you are looked down on as a second class citizen,as most FAS employers have not even been adequately trained or even have the right attitude,so you will be in for a lot of this by some..SOME DO NOT EVEN HAVE EXPERIENCE OR QUALIFICATIONS,AND WALK INTO A SUPERVISORY POSITION..
FAS 'SERVICES',are only for those who are involved in corruption, networking with local political (MAINLY FF)constituents,FAS 'SERVICES DO NOT BENEFIT THOSE WHO WANT TO GAIN RELEVANT EXPERIENCE,EDUCATION,OR TRAINING..

FAS IS A GOVERNMENT SUBSIDY AND THE ADVERTISING IS MISLEADING..

IF I SOLD A MARS BAR AND SAID IT WAS A FRUIT LOOP,WOULD I BE FIRED FROM MY JOB AND/OR BROUGHT TO COURT?

author by FAS PICKETpublication date Fri Aug 27, 2010 15:21author address author phone Report this post to the editors

I would be interested in any former ce workers or present ce workers who would be interested in mounting a picket outside the fas head office..

It seems , so far today i was right about FAS all along .

2 basic elements to know 'afore ye go ;

1st , keep your mouth shut ( and your eyes open )

2nd. watch the so called new friends one is likely to meet on a FAS course ,
.........( chances are 'new fwend' could become 'new enemy', as in hanging you )

..........If all else fails (sic), revert to 1st basic element .

If you do not like it then why did you sign up?In my experience FAS has been a positive experience, there are always going to be the odd one or two staff, that complain, you cannot please everybody..
There was one supervisor who used to always use that phrase ''dun do bheal agus na be ag caint''.
And in reply to the user Dun do bheal agus na be ag caint,i tried the first approach mouth shut, eyes open, and the second(they hang you anyway),in the FAS enviornment,it just does not work, your rights are not considered regardless..

In the opening introductory first day welcome to FAS,the manager at the centre jokingly added, that anybody who had complaints could complain to the FAS HEAD OFFICE.I didn't find that one bit funny,in fact i found it thretening..Needless to say there was a sharp silence for about half a minute, then only one CE worker put up her hand, and the manager practiaclly had a full blown speech prepared for that question!Nobody asked again..WELCOME TO FAS I SUPPOSE!?
