The Peoples Movement calls for support for 4 Independent candidates in the General Election

category national | politics / elections | opinion/analysis author Friday February 11, 2011 13:30author by Celtic Warrior Report this post to the editors

The Peoples movement calls for its supperters to vote for and to help 4 independent councillors to be elected in Dublin, Sligo, Donygal and Galway. This is vital in order to ensure that a number of politicans are elected with principled policies on the EU and leaving the Euro currency and on taking the Icelandic approach to solving our banking debt.

The Peoples movement which campaigns against the Policies of the EU is supporting a limited number of candidates in the general election. These Candidates are Cieran Perry (Dublin Central) Declan Bree (Sligo-North Leitrim), Catherine Connolly, (Galway West), and Thomas Pringle, (Donegal South-West). These candidates have backed the policies of the peoples movement on the EU and stand for issues such as:

Repatriation of power from Brussels
Repudiation of the debt.
Opposition to EU competition policies/privatisation.
Defence of Irish neutrality and sovereignty.
National control of natural resources.

It is of the utmost importance to ensure that a number of politicans are elected to the Dail with principled policies on the EU and leaving the Euro currency and on taking the Icelandic approach to solving our banking debt.
The Peoples movement calls on its supporters to help out these candidates by volunteering to help with leaflets and if possibly financially.

great to see a party tackling the corrupt EU establishment. Is the Irish Peoples Movement along the same lines as the Danish Peoples Movement? They used to be a very strong movement and even got people elected to the Eu parliament for all the good that does! Apart from letting ff and labour type politicians keep their snouts stuck in the Brussels gravy train.

The peoples movement seem to be very similar to the Danish the peoples movement. They were quiet active during Lisbon 1 and Lisbon 2 and were very similar to CAUEC or Campaign against the EU Constitution in their left of center policies and work within trade unions. They used to have videos on youtube explaining the dangers of the EU empire and its many dangers and tentacles.

One of the four candidates seems to be with both the United Left and the Peoples Movement.
I suppost this is no harm as both groups are fairly left wing so there is a lot of common ground between them.

this sounds good I think it is well past time Ireland got out of the EU. Where can I get these leaflets I will be very happy to hand them out where I live.

Get ready for the long haul on that one.

The earlier act of union we were coerced into is still poisoning our progress. Besides, the EU is a curate's egg. And we cant abdicate from the increasingly gobalising world that has developed and is evolving. Europe generally presents a more measured approach to global issues than the other attempted monopoles on the menu. Wanna live in depression era US(Obama just announced another raft of slash-n-burn to appease the GOP as second term looms).China, maybe? Not at the minit, thanks.Post-soviet Russia?

There are no national solutions to the global problems coming down all our tracks. Its going to require we get out of a set of mental straitjackets inherited largely from the nineteenth century, and maintained by the vested interests through 20th century technologies. the hope is we can learn from the likes of the Egyptians and keep a grip on the potential of the new technologies of networking. We're going to have to take up the onerous task of practising democracy instead of devolving our responsibilities onto manipulable representatives.

That said, the only accessable political machinery is national(we cant elect our emperor in washington). Now if Enda was aware of what needs doing I reckon he would not just be kissing Angela's arse, he'd be organising connections to Greece, Portugal, Spain etc to co-ordinate a brake on the two-speed EU envisaged by the big boys. But then if we'd any political insight in the usual suspects we would not have allowed the UN be eroded the way it has been, without at least a rearguard attempt to rally the GA against the entrenchment of the dictat of the SC.

Just what paddy needs, the odds are agin us.

..on that slash-n-burn budget.

http://wwwglobalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=23214

and the same neo-con agenda will come down the EU competition-uber-alles pipeline if Merkel and Sarkozy have their way.

The advantage, for the moment, is that the German and French populations still have a streak of historical memory as to the consequences of non-communal political extremism.

Opus

You are a remarkable man but let us get one thing into a level playing field here, there is major internal fighting among the left i.e. Independents going forward on their own agendas. Labour party tied at the hip with Siptu not forgetting the donations that Jack O'Connor subscribed to at 4 course dinners. Then we have Claire Daly, Richard Boyd Barrett and European Joe Higgins telling us all to default on the loans ...... let us get real here. We have to pay our frontline services. But here is my question: Where is the fraud squad in relation to Anglo Irish Bank - Bertie's annual tent contingent - Fingleton and Drumm and the rest of the Golden Circle. There are dark forces compromising the investigation into Anglo Irish and Irish Nationwide and hopefully whatever Government is coming in, they should have a moral duty to clean up things. There is one thing I know: Joe Higgins is a decent individual but if he fails in his Dail seat he still had the luxury of flying to Europe unlike the half of million people on this Island presently who are without employment.

Dear Frederick,

What in the name of all the social networks are you asking ME about the fraud squad's agenda for?

It should be obvious to all that the only fraud getting investigated, once Enda de Nayshun straps himself in, is the poor fucker trying to get an extra pint or packet of cigarettes by doing an 'illegal' half-day's work clearing some pensioner's garden. i.e. Business as usual.

As for Joe H and Europe, I'd rather see him out there than all the fucking McGreedys, Flynns, Cox's pippins and the rest of the nest-featherers.To the best of my ignorance Joe doesn't even accept the full ladle from the trough that he could claim.
But do correct me if it aint so.

Glad to hear from the Peoples movement.

Hopefully once this election is out of the way they will meet

and start to grow again and consider putting their own candidates

forward in future contests in the next few years.
