#FridaysForFuture is hashtag for the global “FridaysForFuture” Climate Strike started by Greta Thunberg last year and is aimed at trying to get people and government to act to do something in the face of the impending climate disaster bearing down on us all. It is ironic that when it comes to climate change we are willing to risk of 1 in 2 chance off disaster, but ask anyone to step on a plane with a one in a thousand chance of crashing and you will get absolutely no takers. In recent days Lorna Gold who wrote the book: Climate Generation: Awakening to Our Children's Future appeared on the Ryan Turbidity radio show to bring attention to the protests happening every Friday in Dublin outside Leinster House ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

In today's society, ‘more education' is marketed as the cure-all for economic and social ills. Conventional wisdom suggests that larger education budgets reduce social exclusion and inequality; that increasing numbers of university graduates turbo-charge growth; and that more classroom learning creates greater mobility. But if these ideas are true, then why has productivity growth slowed at a time when there are more graduates than ever before? Why, then, does social mobility also seem so stubbornly low and inequality so high in this hyper-educated environment? ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

GLOBAL INVITATION -First International Conference Against US/NATO Military Bases
November 16-18, 2018, Dublin, Ireland
Add Your Support and Join Us
Dear Friends of Peace Around the World,
We are deeply concerned, and frightened, by the threat of war that permeates the present
Global atmosphere.
The increasingly aggressive and expansionist actions of US/NATO forces in violation of
international law and the sovereign rights of all nations, the raging wars in the Middle East,
the burgeoning arms race devastating the national treasuries, the bellicose language
replacing diplomatic negotiations, the economic difficulties facing country after country,
and the destruction of global environment through war and unfettered exploitation, and
their impact on public health, have all created crises that, unless checked by popular
opposition, can lead to unimaginable catastrophe and war. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()

The Dail recently voted to join PESCO. This is the first stage of Ireland joining an EU Army. With PESCO we will be under the command of NATO. This would be the end of our neutrality. The ReBirth of Marxism: Haunting the Future National University of Ireland Maynooth, 4 – 5 May 2018 Call for papers In his play Marx in Soho, Howard Zinn has Marx ask “Don’t you wonder why it is necessary to proclaim me dead, again and again?” May 5, 2018 will be Marx’s 200th anniversary – one among many anniversaries which remind us of Marx and Engels’ long-lasting impact on the modern world. As we send this out, we are sandwiched between the 150th anniversary of Capital and the 100th of what Gramsci called a “Revolution against Capital” in Russia. Our conference includes the May Day bank holiday, celebrated by the traditional labour movement – but it also marks the 50th anniversary of the start of “May 1968” in Paris, while “Ireland’s 1968” is sometimes dated to the violent suppression of a civil rights demonstration in Derry, five months later. ... read full story / add a comment ![]()
