The Greyhound Industry and the Dog Breeding Establishments Bill 2010
Please note the following facts and recommendations in relation to the current situation for Greyhounds in Kennels. The Greyhound Industry imply that they are recognised ‘as being already compliant with standards that are in fact higher than those included in this Bill as part of the Greyhound Industry Act (1958)….’ We deny this claim due to the gross animal violations inherent in the Greyhound industry, dogs being abandoned, drugged, mutilated, drowned, injured at tracks and killed when of no further use in racing. read full story / add a comment

Re. Misinformation about the Greyhound Industry being fed to Senators
Segment of discussion:DENIS O DONOVAN FF.. A trainer may have a number of bitches on his premises for the sole purpose of racing. Such a person would be licensed by the IGB, the Irish Greyhound Board, and upon the conclusion of a racing career the owners take charge of his or her greyhound. In such cases, the trainer is not managing greyhounds for the purposes of breeding per se. Some of these points are very valid and should be considered. It should also be remembered that under current coursing rules and regulations, all stud dogs and brood bitches are DNA, deoxyribonucleic acid, profiled. There is a register of all matings and litters born, the adult greyhound name and transfers of ownership etc. These points should be borne in mind. read full story / add a comment

The long awaited Puppy farming Bill now being added to our Irish animal protection legislation is a much-needed and vital piece of legislation. We have all seen the results of the SPCA raids on dog breeding farms throughout Ireland. Dogs living in horrendous conditions in their own excrement with improper nourishment , housing and no veterinary care. So many having to be euthanized , their suffering so severe.

What person in their right mind would object to allowing Gardai and animal protection groups more access and powers to punish the offenders who perpetrate crimes against defenceless pups and dogs. read full story / add a comment

St Stephens Day and 2009 year end

The 26th December will as usual have every pack of hounds in the country well-turned out and doing their annual PR piece for hunting. This of course distracts from the fact that all hunts except drag hunts are out to kill and terrorise animals. After all that is why they exist- to abuse animals for fun. They admit it!.

The Minister for the Environment Mr. John Gormley was today urged to immediately suspend the licence he granted earlier in the autumn to the Ward Union Stag Hunt following a serious incident last Friday when a deer being hunted by the Ward Union was chased onto the main road between Ashbourne and Slane. The deer, which was hit by an on-coming Mercedes, was seriously injured and had to be put down at the scene. It had been seen exiting Seamus Dardis’s farm having begun its chase from Huntsman Pat Coyles premises. read full story / add a comment

Dont buy items with feathers/duvets, jackets, hanging decorations, xmas decorations,....etc..
Down is the soft layer of feathers closest to birds’ skin, primarily on the chest area. These feathers are valued because they do not have any hard quills. Products labeled as “down” may contain a combination of these underfeathers and other feathers or fillers. While most down and feathers are removed from birds during slaughter, geese from breeders and ones bred for meat and those on foie gras farms may be live-plucked.

This Sunday join compassionate people from across Ireland and beyond to gather in Dublin for a peaceful march and rally to call for stronger laws in the upcoming animal welfare bill due to be released in 2010 – the rally also aims to highlight the problem of animal abuse in Ireland to the nation and call for tougher penalties for those who abuse animals and who currently get away with a mere a slap on the wrist. The march also aims to establish rights for animals and to remove from society that animals are nothing more than commodities. read full story / add a comment
