Hi,

CAFT Ireland launched the country's first ever 'Fur Farm Exposé Tour' on Saturday 4th July. This was to highlight the recent undercover exposé on Irish fur farms, which can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/naracampaigns

We travelled to every county that has a fur farm, tabled and leafleted in the major town near each farm, and protested outside all 5 mink farms - something that has never been done before, and something that we pledge to keep doing on a regular basis. read full story / add a comment

Having been contacted by concerned individuals, many working in the airport. The wall mounted fish tanks on the ‘Street’ at Dublin Airport were again brought to our attention.

In 2006 AFAR did a demo at Dublin Airport and as a result had SEAHORSES removed from the ESTEE LAUDER Crème de la Mer tanks after hearing many Seahorses had died due to lack of feeding and regular care.
Now in 2009 the fish that had replaced the seahorses were suffering the same fate. read full story / add a comment

People often ask Vegans- why is a vegetarian diet not sufficient if one wants to eliminate food that causes suffering to animals from their diet? Years ago Vegetarianism was a new concept but now it is mainstream. We have now progressed to a new level with Veganism as people embrace the concept in increasing numbers. The vast range of Soya and plant based products in Irish supermarkets accommodating diets free of animal products is increasing rapidly.

END the pathetic conditions for over 20 animals, including a Pregnant donkey in FUNTASIA’s noisy rooftop Petting Farm.
A noisy amusement and casino establishment in Bettystown has airlifted (by CHERRYPICKER) over 20 animals onto its roof in an effort to attract more clientele to its arcade and boost profits at 3 euro a head.
Funtasia last week got many of these animals from Jesse Callaghan, a farmer in Lunderstown, Duleek to use as a spectacle for the roof farm on their two story building. Chicken wire, plywood and a fully cemented roof is all that was provided by way of accommodation for a variety of animals including:
A pregnant Donkey in poor condition.... read full story / add a comment

The finding of three mutilated greyhound carcasses this week at a popular seaside resort (Kilteery Pier in County Limerick) shows just how expendable these animals are deemed by their owners once their performance days are over.

The likelihood that they were greyhounds bred for hare coursing, judging from their build, should serve as yet another reminder that we are one of the few remaining countries that still permit this depraved and viciously cruel blood sport.

The animal liberation movement has the mammoth task of exploding the myths behind so-called "humanely produced" animal products, such as cage-free and free-range eggs or meat that is "certified humane."
We try to expose the truth behind the marketing of food products that supposedly cause less harm to the animals used to produce them--foods that are meant to assuage the guilt of people who are concerned about animals (sort of) but who stop short of not eating them. Of course this eases their consciences about causing suffering to animals. It is a half measure. read full story / add a comment

The sad and unnecessary fatalities of six HORSES at Killarney race course on Sunday puts the safety of jumps racing under increasing scrutiny. Coincidently, last week in Australia a review of jumps-racing in Victoria was instigated as Jumps racing was suspended-due to 13 horses dying last year .The future of Jumps racing at least in Australia is now under threat due to the treatment of horses. read full story / add a comment

The Alliance for Animal Rights (AFAR) is horrified that a CONVICTED serial animal abuser in County Limerick is apparently running for a Council seat in the Adare area elections. Richard Smith,(48) a dairy farmer and also owner of Company Richie Tryes on the Kilmallock Road* is hoping people will vote him in as a Councillor in Adare. He has repeatedly abused animals, this being his possible third conviction for abuse to animals on his farm. read full story / add a comment

We bring you more good news! The European Union have just announced that they are to ban the trade in seal products into Europe. This good news comes amid fierce opposition from the Canadian government whom have been sending countless delegations to Europe in order to lobby Ministers and MEP’s. Their campaign has been built on lies and bullying tactics. Today’s news will now mean that once the legislation comes into force, it will be illegal to sell or trade in seal products from countries such as Canada where the cruel commercial seal hunt takes place—thus cutting off a major market for seal skins read full story / add a comment

On March 10th more than 50 ARAN members and supporters came and went during our lively lunchtime demonstration outside the EU Parliament offices in Dublin to urge Irish MEP’s to support an upcoming vote for a ban on seal ‘products’ from Canada into Europe. The aim of the demonstration was also to raise vital awareness of the campaign to passersby and members of the public. Tons of leaflets, bumper stickers and posters were distributed to educate and raise further awareness. As with all of ARAN’s work, we strive to ensure education is our primary focus. read full story / add a comment
