Dublin Primary School brings their young pupils to night of gambling at the dogs. The O‘Connel’s primary school Parents Association obviously believes that Gambling is a healthy pursuit for 8 to 10 year old schoolchildren. A night at the dogs was arranged by the OCS Parents association on last Thursday 3rd May. A mini-bus and apparently a Gardai community Van shuttled children for a night of gambling at Shelbourne Park to bet on about 12 races as no underage limit applies at Greyhound and Horse tracks in Ireland. One child won 60-80 euro and the website for the school said the following regarding the event. The O Connell Primary School Dublin website states-‘ A Night at the Dogs posted 4 May 2012 00:08 by Gerry Hancock .A big Thank You to everyone who helped out with or attended the OCS Parents' Assoc. Press Release IRISH HORSES BETRAYED….as Irish Government plans to export to China…a country steeped in animal abuse. It goes without saying that being a thoroughbred racehorse gets you no better treatment from those who exploit you. School children to be introduced to gambling and animal abuse. Who would have thought the school curriculum in Ireland would be introducing children to Gambling and animal abuse? The Irish Greyhound Board, the IGB, are now offering students and teachers tours of Greyhound stadia around the country. These same racing tracks allow children to bet their pocket money as no age limit applies to anyone placing bets. The IGB, synonymous with trying to export Greyhounds to China and with cruel treatment towards unwanted hounds are using school tours to indoctrinate children into gambling. read full story / add a comment

Last week a circus worker at a circus based in cork was seriously injured when a Indian Elephant accidently fell upon him. I look at how in the 21st century using wild animals for entertainment ishumane and should not be acceptable. read full story / add a comment

Press Release: CALL FOR IMMEDIATE END TO ANIMALS IN CIRCUSES AFAR yet again call for a ban on animals in Circuses after a circus trainer was trampled by an elephant today in Cork. Our sympathies lie with the animals who are imprisoned in circuses for entertainment. We call on our elected representatives to use common sense on this issue which is growing more pressing as absolutely no legislation exists in Ireland to prohibit the keeping of exotic species. With a million stray cats struggling to survive in harsh conditions, the Government has once again excluded their welfare from the draft Animal Health and Welfare Bill. Campaigners are lobbying for cat welfare to be included in the new animal welfare laws, that cats should no longer be classified as 'pests' alongside mice and rats and that a comprehensive neutering campaign be put in place. Dominic Magnone, of Greyhound and Pet World, has drugs convictions. Proof of this is clearly documented. HORSE RACING DEATH TOLL PROMPTS CALL FOR A BAN .
Five young horses died last week at Leopardstown Race Track whilst Racing. This follows a similar incident where six horses died at Tramore track in Killarney a few years ago.
In Sligo two years ago a horse collision at Cullenamore Races resulted in a horse having to be put down and two jockeys rushed to hospital. The collision occurred in front of hundreds of spectators. Laytown is remembered for the pile up of horses in the nineties when three horses were killed.
While these fatalities are described as ‘freakish’ ‘sad’ and ‘regrettable’ the number of injuries and deaths is rising because horses are raced and made jump. read full story / add a comment
