Craigavon Trades Council hosted an open meeting in opposition to the introduction of water charges. The meeting was designed to consider the best ways to progress the campaign which now includes a provence wide petition. While the meeting was very useful, the fact that only one political party (Sinn Fein) attended the meeting was a clear indication that a lot of hard work was going to be nessessary. The lack of interest from the political parties (apart from the above mentioned) was in sharp contrast to the "bluster" heard from ALL the political parties during the recent election campaign. It seems clear that if any serious opposition to this unjust double tax is going to be mounted it is going to come from within local community groups, Trade Unions, and members of the wider general public. Hopefully the campaign will now begin to take shape, and with a sufficient groundswell of support the other political parties might consider rejoining the fight. read full story / add a comment

This article, below about the deaths in Iraq, reveals some very interesting detail about the tragedy that is unfolding. It is interesting because it shows that the major media outlets, BBC and RTE and the national newspapers are in fact pushing an agenda and not telling the truth. Their agenda is that George Bush is a wicked man and so everyone must hate him. He is wicked in their eyes because he is pro-life and pro-family and is trying to reverse the decline in morality that took place under the Clinton decade of permissiveness and his undermining of marriage. They ramp up hostility towards him by pushing out propaganda claiming that Coalition-led forces have killed 34 Iraqi civilians a day since they invaded. I just want other peoples opinions, my local mace store have promotions, e.g. two for a reduced price or whatever, but these goods are charged at full regular rate at check out. Most people don't complain so i guess it goes smoothly and profitably. To my shock this morning I complained, having being overcharged on at least one item each weekend for three weeks now. I bought surf breeze 1.1 kg, marked 2.69 on shelf, but 3.80 at till, complained after going back and checking, received a refund for the difference, but , to my amazement, that was it, no changes were made to till system, so the next person who picks up a box will be charged 3.80. In a time when many people don't check receipts for small items, it is these little, ongoing rip offs that frustrate me. So please let me know if this policy is being practiced elsewhere, or just here. read full story / add a comment

Here are the results of votes, that is to say the % of the electorate who were registered to vote who did so, province by province. Using this list, we can quickly & promptly identify those provinces where blue flag beaches and a kicking good mass count for more than new fangled notions on the high-tech chicken baster designer kids for infertile people market. The Pope is delighted. We can now see that the real trouble makers are concentrated in the north west and Tuscany where Mr Blair goes on holidays around Bologna and Florence. The Italians will now move progressively, to banning condoms, outlawing orgasms, herding up preverted types [sic], adopting african kids, & of course attending marches organised by the Spanish rightwing. BUT of course they won't relax, it doesn't really make much of a difference. It is now not only cool to "not vote" its HOLY. @.:.%+*$/€ read full story / add a comment
