Palestinian Activists in East Jerusalem are predicting a Third Palestinian Intifada in the near future. According to some Palestinians such an outcome is inevitable to Israel's ongoing ethnic cleansing in the city. In this case the source of the $1m 'award', is a transparently Zionist propaganda "foundation". Not that most would be aware of this outside minority publications and the internet, as analysis is unsurprisingly absent from mainstream media outlets. So in that light, it is published here in the public interest (originally from The Phoenix of 13th of March) Israeli Blood Money For Blair Tony Blair's $1m award for “exceptional leadership” from the Israel Dan David Foundation has received surprisingly little international attention. The PR guff surrounding this reward for Blair’s shameless support for virtually anything Israel inflicts on the Palestinians makes much of Blair’s peace initiative in Ireland and Kosovo. But the reality is that Blair is being rewarded for his long time support for Israel. read full story / add a comment

A call for Internment Eoghan Harris worked himself into a ball as he bounced up and down in Seanad Eireann the other night. The reason for this noisy outburst was the killing of two British soldiers and one member of the P.S.N.I. last weekend. Before he actually said the word Internment, he led the listeners up this point by repeatedly referring to Internment as ‘The I word‘. In Ireland, the word Internment evokes painful memories in generations of Irish people North and South of the border. The very mention of the word Internment carries an absolute loathing with it. Certain negative words can have this effect on people because of the fearful emotions associated with it. read full story / add a comment

The recent events in Northern Ireland have brought back a whole host of dark memories. The attacks have placed a question mark over both the stability and success of the peace process. However, in many ways the attacks are very different from those during the Troubles. Unlike the violence in the past, these attacks are not really aimed at gaining public support or making a political point but at destabilising Northern Ireland in its transition from post-conflict zone to stable society. read full story / add a comment

Working class should unite against the killings
The killings by the Real IRA and the Continuity IRA of two soldiers and a policeman should be roundly condemned by every section of the working class movement. Working class people today face an unprecedented assault on jobs and on wages. Our public services are threatened by cuts and privatisation. More than ever we need to stand united to defend living standards. read full story / add a comment

The Irish peace process has brought massive transformation to Ireland and its people. It has witnessed the early release of hundreds of republican political prisoners, it has ensured a peaceful stable society, it has opened up massive cross border co-operation, it has ensured the right to referenda for a United Ireland, which now gives Irish Republicans the real opportunity to achieve freedom and equality through democratic means. read full story / add a comment

Paddy Hackett writes: The world capitalist economy has plunged into a sustained economic depression. The signs are that this depression shall be deep and prolonged. The principal way by which capitalism can come out of the depression is by reducing both the living standards and employment conditions of the working class. The only other solution is social revolution involving the seizure of power by the working class from the capitalist class necessitating the establishment of a world communist federation. read full story / add a comment

Indymedia contributors should start to think now about how this site will report the strike called for March 30th. There is no certainty that the strike will go ahead, some deal may yet be done to avert it, but if the stoppage does go ahead we need to report it in a way that befits the occasion. A national strike would have profound significance both nationally and internationally. Up to a million people will be involved one way or the other, the world will be watching Ireland. read full story / add a comment |
