Available in four parts as a pretty high quality download here (for the first time I think):
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
The film had a complicated gestation but heavily involved the majority of the original Indymedia Ireland gang. We came back from working with Indymedia Italy in Genoa all fired up and determined to start an Indymedia in Ireland. Almost five years ago that was now. The film traces the events of the three days of protests in detail and poses the question - Was it all a setup? If Seattle was 'Star Wars' then this is 'The Empire Strikes Back'. It is made from a combination of footage of the Genoa protests against the G8 shot by 10 members of IMC Ireland, material from the Italy IMC Archives and material from various other sources. This compelling footage combined with on the spot interviews and reenacted voiceover commentary and analysis from various websites which were active during the protests provides a in-depth blow by blow retelling of the story of the three days of the Genoa protests against the G8. The film will be available on DVD in the run-up to the fifth anniversary of the Genoa protests. Watch this space for details. read full story / add a comment

I, like almost everybody I know, didn't predict the events of Saturday. In fact the only person I know who did predict a major riot was a friend of mine who happens to hail from the wee North - in retrospect I should have realised that he had his finger on the pulse, for not only does he have much more experience of sectarian marches, but through his job he knows many of the people who were involved and has an unusual insight and sympathy for those people who most Dubliners write off as 'scumbags' and 'knackers'. This article is an analysis of what happened and why almost everybody got it so wrong. This article is a companion piece to the photo essay which I published yesterday. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Today the Gardai lost control of the city. For some bizzare reason, the police seemed completely unprepared for the level of violence that the FAIR / Loyalist march would provoke. This story captures the events in chronological order in pictures. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Rioting in Dublin in protest at the marching of the Orange Order on Sat February 25th 2006. Pictures and video. A crowd of 500 counter-demonstrators burnt cars, smashed British-owned businesses and threw missiles and a petrol bomb at Gardai in the center of Dublin as they attempted to stop the march by the loyalist paramilitary associated "LoveUlster" group. Several Gardai were hospitalised. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The facade of a trial against the police ended in a not guilty verdict with little chance of their victims ever receiving compensation. As the verdict was read out this lunchtime the activists walked out of court shouting that they had had enough of this bullshit. The whitewashed trial of two police officers in Switzerland, acquitted of the charges of causing severe bodily harm. The two victims narrowly escaped with their lives after a police officer cut a climbing rope during a protest action against the G8 in Evian, France in 2003. Despite clear video evidence that the police officers had cut the rope the judge supported police impunity by ruling that they had made mistakes but that these were understandable in the context of the stress they were under! read full story / add a comment

The prosecutor (lawyer of state) is demanding that the two policemen be acquitted. He is clearly trying to turn the situation upside down and make the accused (aggressors) into the victims of the police intervention... The verdict will be announces Friday, 17th of February at 11.45 am. We call for everyone to come to the court for the verdict. A more detailed briefing & best quotes of today, Wesdnesday can be read below. Prosecuting the police involved in the Aubonne Case In June 2003, an affinity group of people from around Europe, including Irish, German, French, British, Dutch and Belgium blockaded the Aubonne Bridge with a climbing action in order to stop a G8 delegation from reaching the summit in Evian. The police cut the climbing rope and nearly killed two activists. Now the policeman who cut the rope and his senior officer are in court. They are charged with body harm with negligence… read full story / add a comment

An estimated 5000-10,000 (still preliminary) protestors gathered in Hong Kong's Victoria Park and marched their way to the Exhibition Centre where the WTO 6th Ministerial Conference has just begun. Protestors from all over south-east Asia expressed their solidarity with cultural gatherings and workshops. But the most hyped group are the South Korean farmers who made headline news when Lee Kyeong-hae commited suicide at Cancun 2003. read full story / add a comment

The film covers the day of blockades in an agit prop, music video style. It tries to explain the frustration of the previous 2 days of being " penned in " by the police at protests and the contrast between the direct action blockades and what was going on at Live 8.
